DSU continues North Star Volleyball conference action on the road Friday & Saturday

October 4, 2017



· Dakota State (S.D.) (4-17 overall record, 2-4 North Star record) continues their six-match road trip with a pair of North Star Athletic Association volleyball matches this weekend.

· The Trojans will be facing an opponent ranked in the NAIA's Top 25 national poll for the second straight match on Friday evening.

· DSU visits the nation's No. 1 team Viterbo (Wis.) (17-0 overall record, 5-0 NSAA conference record) on Friday.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium (400 Viterbo Drive) in La Crosse, Wis.  The V-Hawks will be facing the No. 7 team in the NAIA, Dordt (Iowa) on Thursday evening.

· Dakota State travels to Hanson Fieldhouse (106 S. 6th Street) in Forest City, Iowa on Saturday afternoon for another North Star conference action.  The Trojans take on Waldorf (Iowa) (3-17 overall record, 0-6 NSAA record). 

· Please note that the match time for DSU-WU has been moved to 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.  It was originally scheduled for 4 p.m.

· Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off their six-match road trip on Sept. 26 with a 3-1 defeat to in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.).

· Samantha Zell led the Trojans' offensive attack with 12 kills and hit .214 in the match.  She also had four block assists and a solo block.

· Carly Rozell added nine kills (.242 hitting percentage) and collected 10 digs for DSU.  She tallied four block assists.

· Rachel Johnson posted her fifth double-double of the season, registering 18 set assists and 13 digs for Dakota State.  Kendra Steffen added 14 assists and 7 digs.

· Mount Marty outhit Dakota State 59-39 in the match.  The Lancers hit .226 (24 errors in 155 attempts) compared to the Trojans .151 hitting efficiency (18 errors in 139 attempts).

· DSU recorded nine team blocks while MMC had two blocks.  The Lancers had 75 digs compared to the Trojans 63 digs.


· Dickinson State (N.D.) swept Dakota State (S.D.) in three straight sets in the North Star volleyball conference action at Scott Gymnasium on Sept. 29,

· Samantha Zell and Carly Rozell each smashed six kills for the Trojans.  Kaylee Spreier added five kills.

· Rachel Johnson produced 14 set assists for DaSU.  Kendra Steffen had five assists.

· Rozell tallied three service aces for Daktoa State.  Bailee Steffensen and Alwaise Villa each recorded five digs.  Spreier had two solo blocks and a block assist. 

· Dickinson State smashed 35 kills in the match compared to Dakota State 21 kills.  The Blue Hawks hit .257 (16 errors in 74 attempts) while the Trojans hit .000 (21 errors in 91 attempts).

· The Blue Hawks registered 10 service aces while the Trojans had 3 aces.  DiSU recorded 7 blocks compared to DaSU 5 blocks.


· Dakota State (S.D.) won the first set 25-20 over No. 23-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) in the North Star conference action at the Hansen Center on Sept. 30.

· The Jimmies answered back by winning the next three sets, securing a 3-1 match victory over the Trojans.

· Carly Rozell led the Trojans with nine kills.  Kaylee Spreier and Samantha Zell each smashed seven kills.

· Kendra Steffen contributed 14 set assists, while Rachel Johnson had 13 assists for DSU.

· Alwaise Villa led the Trojans' defense with 11 digs.  She recorded three service aces. 

· UJ outhit DSU 54-37 in the match.  The Jimmies hit .248 compared to the Trojans .083.


· According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Wednesday, Dakota State (S.D.) racked up a total of 157.0 blocks.  Their 157.0 blocks ranks 23rd-most in the NAIA.

· Kaylee Spreier leads the Trojans with 72 blocks, 33rd-most in the nation.  She averages 0.9 blocks per set.

· Samantha Zell have 64.0 blocks, while Carly Rozell have 55 blocks for Dakota State.

· The Trojans lead the North Star conference overall in total blocks.  DSU records 53 team blocks during North Star conference matches, the second-most in the NSAA conference.


· Kills (Kills Per Set):  Carly Rozell—202 kills (2.6 kills per set)

· Assists (Assists Per Set):  Rachel Johnson—343 assists (4.3 assists per set)

· Service Aces (Service Aces Per Set):  Carly Rozell—30 service aces (0.4 aces per set) 

· Digs (Digs Per Set):  Mallory Testerman—183 digs (2.7 digs per set)

· Blocks/Blocks Per Set:  Kaylee Spreier—72.0 blocks (0.9 blocks per set)

· Receptions:  Jayzmayne Williams—317 receptions


· Dakota State (S.D.) have 14 matches remaining on their 2017 schedule, including 11 matches during the month of October.

· The Trojans are scheduled to play five home matches at DSU Fieldhouse this month, as well as three more home matches in November as part of the five-match home stand.

· Parents' Day will be held on Oct. 14 versus Bellevue (Neb.).  The Trojans will hold a Dig Pink night on Oct. 28 versus Jamestown (N.D.), Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night on Nov. 1 versus Presentation (S.D.).
