THIS WEEK: Dakota State (4-10 overall record) will be playing two matches this week, one on the road and one at home. The Trojans travel to Aberdeen, S.D. on Wednesday night to take on NCAA Division III Presentation (S.D.) (1-7 overall). Dakota State hosts Briar Cliff (2-10 overall) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference on Friday night.
MATCH TIMES: First serve for Dakota State-Presentation match is set at 7 p.m. at Strode Center on Wednesday night. The Trojans return home on Friday night, taking on the Chargers at DSU Fieldhouse. The junior varsity match starts at 6 p.m. with the varsity match to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. All times are central.
LAST MEETING: It have been over eight years that Dakota State and Presentation met last time. The Trojans swept Saints in three straight sets on Sept. 13, 2003 (30-15, 30-18 and 30-14) and on Sept. 20, 2003 (30-23, 30-16 and 30-18). Briar Cliff defeated Dakota State in three straight sets in the University of Sioux Falls Classic on Sept. 3, 2010. The Chargers won by the scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23.
TEAMS MEET FOR SECOND MEETING THIS SEASON: Dakota State and Presentation will meet again for their second meeting this season. The Trojans host Saints on Sept. 28 at DSU Fieldhouse. Briar Cliff will welcome DSU on Oct. 4 in Sioux City, Iowa for both teams' second meeting of 2011.
FAMILY NIGHT: The Dakota State University volleyball team will be hosting Family Night on Friday night. The Trojans will recognize their parents prior to the varsity match.
DSU QUICK LEADERS: Stephanie Kruggel leads the team in kills with 150 (3.2 kills per set). In addition, she records 35 blocks through 14 matches (0.7 blocks per set). Stacey Schuller contributes 422 set assists with an average of 8.8 assists per set. Katie Green leads DSU's defense with 170 digs (3.5 digs per set).
NAIA STATISTICAL RANKINGS: Three Dakota State University athletes are ranked in the top 50 in the following categories - Stacey Schuller ranks 16th in the nation in total assists (422); Stephanie Kruggel ranks 38th in total kills (150) and Kristen DiPaola ranks 43rd in total kills (143). As a team, Dakota State ranks in the top 50 in three different categories. The Trojans rank 18th in the nation in total digs with 843 and 25th in digs per set (17.6). DSU ranks 48th in total assists with 461.
TRIPLE DIGITS ATTACKS: Two seniors and a junior had surpassed triple digits number of attacks through 14 matches this season. Stephanie Kruggel produces 150 kills with her fellow teammate Lauren LaBar with 104 kills. Kristen DiPaola records 144 kills.
500 KILLS: DSU had reached 500th kill through 14 matches this season. The Trojans average 10.4 kills per set.
COACHES' CORNER: Amy Veenhof enters her third season as head coach at Dakota State. She has coached one all-conference player and five NAIA Academic All-American scholar-athletes. Jessica VanLoy is in her first season as an assistant coach. She will guide the Trojans' junior varsity volleyball program this fall. Becky Smith is in her first year as a student assistant coach for the Trojans.
