MADISON, S.D. - In the battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference foes Friday night at DSU Fieldhouse, Black Hills State scored 31 points in points from DSU's 36 turnovers as the Yellow Jackets earned a 56-44 victory. 

Dakota State suffered their seventh straight loss (all in January) and dropped their overall record to 5-14.  Black Hills State, a transitional member of the NCAA Division II, improved their record to 5-9.

The Trojans committed nine turnovers and missed two shots from the field in the first seven minutes of the game to give BHSU a 13-0 commanding lead.

DSU ended their scoring drought by Cassie Jacobsen's layup with 12:56 left in the first-half.

Dakota State went on a 17-8 run to trim their deficit to 21-17 with 2:51 on the clock before halftime.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed a 25-18 halftime lead.

The Trojans had 20 turnovers in the first-half and made four baskets in 15 attempts (26.7 percent).  Black Hills State was 11-for-36 from the field and stole the ball 12 times.

DSU could get no closer than four points on two occasions - 38-34 (8:36 remaining) and 42-38 (5:22 left in the game). 

The Yellow Jackets sealed the game with a 14-6 closing run.

Jayda Swenson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench for DSU.  She was 3-for-6 from the field and 7-for-11 from the free-throw line.  Kylie Westover added 10 points.  Katy Pillar had seven points and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Courtney Hamblin and Pillar each had three assists.

Kristi Ryan tallied in 19 points for the Yellow Jackets.  She earned nine boards and recorded eight steals.  Cassidy Kotelman had eight points and nine rebounds.  Dakota Barrie dished out four assists.  Bayley Chevron stole the ball six times.

Dakota State shot better in the game than BHSU.  The Trojans were 13-for-36 (36.1 percent) compared to the Yellow Jackets' 29.2 percent (19-for-65). 

DSU outrebounded BHSU 42-33.  The Yellow Jackets had 15 offensive boards, while the Trojans had nine offensive rebounds. 

BHSU stole the ball 22 times in the game compared to DSU 7.

Dakota State looks to end their losing streak tomorrow night (Saturday) as they host their former DAC foe South Dakota Mines.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
