WAYNE, Neb. - The majority of the Dakota State University indoor track and field teams competed in the Wildcat Open Saturday, hosted by NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.). The Trojans had 14 individuals placed in the top 10 at the WSC's Recreation Center.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, David Sotir produced a first-place finish with a time of 8.99 seconds. Zach Ely was second in 9.04 seconds and Chad Pelkofer placed 5th (9.21 seconds). Justin Templeton was 11th (13.31 seconds). Sotir, Ely and Pelkofer advanced to the finals.
Ely captured the 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.99 seconds. Sotir was fourth in 9.30 seconds and Pelkofer was fifth in 9.32 seconds.
Kayla Sveen won the women's 600-meter run. She recorded a time of 1:46.82 in the race. Brooke Fritz clocked a time of 1:49.49 for a second-place finish.
Taylor Hauge produced a time of 2:47.38 for a third-place finish in the men's 1000-meter run.
Sveen was fourth in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 29.31 seconds. Victoria Sopko placed seventh in 30.42 seconds.
Sopko clocked a time of 1:07.50 for a fourth-place finish in the women's 400-meter dash.
Trevor Rossknecht placed fifth in the men's weight throw. He threw a measurement of 44 feet and 11.75 inches. Trevor Van Tilburg was 14th (40 feet and 3.25 inches).
Anastasia Asimakopoulos ran a time of 6:18.61 for a sixth-place finish in the women's one-mile run. Amber Wiebenga was eighth in 6:50.38.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Jared Truman finished eighth with a time of 56.01 seconds.
Five DSU runners placed in the men's 200-meter dash. Truman was ninth in 24.78 seconds. Templeton placed 13th with a time of 25.16 seconds. Sotir was 14th in 25.17 seconds. Pelkofer finished 17th in 25.56 seconds. Hayden Erickson was 19th in 26.19 seconds.
Ely recorded a time of 7.52 seconds for a 13th-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash.
Two DSU women's throwers placed in women's weight throw. Shayna Dwyer threw a measurement of 34 feet and 10.5 inches for a 15th-place finish. Ashley Currey was 17th with a measurement of 33 feet and 9.5 inches.
Dakota State returns back to action next Saturday (Jan. 26). The Trojans compete in the Buena Vista Open, which is located in Storm Lake, Iowa.
