DAC Outdoor Track and Field Conference Results

SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Dakota State University outdoor track and field teams competed in the final Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) meet on Friday.  The meet was held at the cool and breezy Lyle Hare Stadium on the campus of Black Hills State University.  Dakota State men's team placed fifth and women's sixth in the meet. 

Dickinson State captured the men's team title with 275 points. Jamestown was second with 144 points, followed by South Dakota School of Mines 127.5 points, Black Hills State fifth (106.5 points), Dakota State (73 points), Minot State sixth (62 points) and Valley City State seventh (43 points).

On the women's side, Black Hills state won the team title with 310 points. Jamestown finished second with 246 points. Dickinson State was third with 114 points, followed by Minot State fourth (61 points), South Dakota School of Mines fifth (38 points), Dakota State (37 points) and Valley City State seventh (24 points).

The day began with Devon Berkness (senior - Madison, S.D.) winning the men's 10,000-meter run with a new DAC conference record time. He ran a national qualifying time of 31 minutes and 22.14 seconds, which is his personal best time in 2011. It was the third fastest time in DSU's school record book. Michael Hoffman (sophomore - Beresford, S.D.) was third with a time of 34:14.95.

In the women's high jump, Danielle Rowe (senior - Rapid City, S.D.) recorded a second-place finish. She successfully cleared the high jump measurement of five feet and seven inches in her third attempt, but unable to clear at 5'9". Hailey Schaper of Dickinson State claimed the women's high jump with a successful second attempt at 5'7".

Rowe tied for fourth best high jump in DSU school record book.

Anthony Drealan (senior - Fulda, Minn.) came from behind to win the men's 5000-meter run. He was head-to-head with Lane Parish of Black Hills State for most part of the race. Drealan was able to overtake the lead with three laps remaining. He claimed the title with a time of 15:35.33.

Drealan was second in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:03.96. Kace Groff finished 10th in 4:23.58.

Andy Coy (sophomore - Hill City, S.D.) fell behind early in the men's 800-meter run. He was able to take the lead in the final lap and captured the title with a time of 1:54.69. Thomas Kjerengtroen was 4th (1:57.76). Jerad Schlobohm placed 13th in 2:02.74.

In hurdles, Summer Bronson was third in the women's 100-meter in 15.65 seconds. She placed sixth in the 400-meters with a time of 1:08.64. Ryan Huizenga was 8th in the men's 400-meters (1:01.74).

Brandi Gau placed fifth in the women's 400-meter dash in 60.32 seconds.

Craig Bailey recorded a sixth-place finish in the men's high jump. He leaped with a height measurement of six feet and one inch.

Stacey Berg placed sixth each in the long jump (21 feet and seven inches) and in the triple jump (42 feet and two inches). Jordy Peterson was eighth in both long (19 feet and 10 inches) and eighth in triple (41 feet and eight inches) jumps.

In sprints, Laura Porch placed seventh in the women's 100-meter dash, Porch with a time of 13.21 seconds. Mengenhausen was seventh in the men's 200-meter dash in 23.10 seconds.

DSU women's 4 x 100-meter relay team (Laura Porch, Gau, Amber Krogstad and Rowe) captured a second-place finish with a time of 50.49 seconds. The 4 x 400-meter relay (Claire Beck, Stephanie Uher, Krogstad and Gau) recorded a third-place finish in four minutes and 10.33 seconds.

The Trojan men's 4 x 100-meter relay (Chance Clason, Jared Mengenhausen, Huizenga and Berg) finished fifth in 44.56 seconds. The 4 x 400-meter relay team (Mengenhausen, Coy, Schlobohm and Kjerengtroen) placed fourth in 3:28.11.

Other place finishers are: Gau (11th in 200-meter dash - 26.92 seconds); Rowe (16th in 200-meter dash - 27.66 seconds); Porch (17th in 200-meter dash - 27.71 seconds); Uher (9th in 400-meter dash - 1:01.24 and 11th in high jump - 1.50 meters); Beck (11th in 400-meter dash - 1:01.50); Nicole Jurrens (15th in 400-meter dash - 1:05.47); Sara Schultz (10th in 1500-meter run - 6:03.25); Krogstad (9th in long jump - 5.06 meters and 9th in triple jump - 10.59 meters); Clason (9th in 100-meter dash - 11.68 seconds and 9th in 200-meter dash - 24.01 seconds); Joshua Scott (11th in 100-meter dash - 12.52 seconds and 12th in 400-meter dash - 56.63 seconds); Shane Whidby (8th in shot put - 13.40 meters and 14th in hammer throw - 27.32 meters); Jeff Rieger (11th in shot put - 12.61 meters and 12th in discus - 37.35 meters); Ryan Gimbel (13th in shot put - 11.68 meters, 16th in discus - 34.9 meters and 10th in hammer throw - 37.78 meters) and Trevor Rosstznecht (9th in discus - 41.04 meters and 13th in hammer throw -33.25 meters).

The DAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet marked the final event for Dakota State to compete in the 11-years DAC era. The Trojans will make a transition to Association of Independent Institutions next season.

DSU will be sending five student-athletes to NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. Drealan, Berkness, Rowe, Coy and Hoffman will be competing in the three-day national event in Marion, Ind. on May 26-28.
