THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (6-11 overall record) looks to bounce back in the winning column this weekend. The Lady T's kick off their 2014 calendar year with a pair of games in the McPherson (Kan.) Classic, featuring three teams from Kansas as well.
McPHERSON (KAN.) CLASSIC: The McPherson (Kan.) Classic features both women's and men's basketball games at McPherson Sports Center on Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan. 4. The Lady T's will face off against a pair of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) in the classic. On Friday, Dakota State plays the host-team McPherson (7-7) with a tip-off starting at 6 p.m. The Lady T's will kick off the second day of the classic, facing Bethel (Kan.) (7-5) at 12 noon. DROOGER AND LADY T'S LEAD NATION IN BLOCKS: After Alyson Drooger recorded seven blocks in neutral site loss to No. 13 Morningside (Iowa) on Dec. 31, she became the nation's leader in blocks per game and total blocks. She racked up a total of 62 blocks and averaged 3.6 blocks per game to lead the nation. The Lady T's are leading the nation in total blocks with 92 blocks. DSU is fourth in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 5.4. The last time that Dakota State had averaged over 5 blocks in a season was during the 2008-09 season when the Lady T's averaged 6.0 blocks per game (4th in the nation).
WESTOVER IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Kylie Westover had scored in double digits in 13 consecutive games since Nov. 13 at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.). She had scored in 15 games out of 17 games this season. Westover scored a season-high 24 points in 68-63 victory at Wisconsin-Stout on Nov. 29. She had made at least a 3-pointer in every game, except at Dakota Wesleyan (on Nov. 13). Westover ranks 20th in the nation in total 3-pointers made with 39 and 32nd in total scoring with 244 points. She is 45th in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (2.3).
RECORDS WATCH: Kylie Westover moved up to No. 6 in all-time scoring in Lady T's record book. She tallied a total of 1,220 points, passing 1,217 points scored by Lisa Gullickson during her career from 1988-92. Julie Fiegen holds the Lady T's school record with 1,637 points from 1982-86. Westover is 25 points shy of reaching the fifth-most points in DSU Lady T's basketball record book (Laura Tewes with 1,245 points from 2004-08). In addition, Westover had moved up to third-most 3-pointers made in a career at Dakota State with 205 3-pointers (Kathy Shypulski holds the Lady T's record with 248 career 3-pointers from 1997-01). Alyson Drooger racked up a total of 62 blocks through 17 games this season. She is currently 4th in the Lady T's record book for most blocks in a single season. Drooger is also fourth in Lady T's record book for most career blocked shots with 135 blocks (Maria Gengler holds the DSU record with 264 career blocks from 2004-08).
DSU IN THE RANKS: According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Thursday, Dakota State ranks 19th in the nation in field goal percentage (43.4 percent). The Lady T's are 20th in scoring offense (1,163 points), 30th in total assists (221) and 31st in 3-point field goal percentage (33 percent). DSU recorded 144 steals, which is 33rd-best in the nation. The Lady T's drained a total of 88 3-pointers (40th best in the nation) and held their opponents to 38.3 percent shooting from the field (38.3 percent). DSU is 48th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game with an average of 27.9 defensive rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State dropped a pair of games in the Briar Cliff (Iowa) Holiday Classic against nationally-ranked teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Lady T's fell short to No. 19 Briar Cliff 89-73 on Dec. 30 and could not get past No. 13 Morningside (Iowa) by the score of 89-50 on Dec. 31. McPherson (Kan.) had not played since Dec. 14 as they lost to Friends (Kan.) 76-53 in a KCAC conference game in McPherson. Bethel won their last game at their home court on Dec. 18, defeating William Penn (Iowa) by the score of 60-54.
TEAM LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's in scoring with an average of 14.4 points per game. She shoots 39.8 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger averages 5.7 rebounds (97 total rebounds) and 3.7 blocks per game (62 total blocks) for DSU. She leads the team with 34 assists and averages 2.0 assists per game. BreeAna Olson stole the ball 33 steals this season, averaging 1.9 steals per game. She ranks 38th in the nation in total steals.

The Lady T's welcome their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) in a non-conference game at DSU Fieldhouse. There will be a junior varsity game at 4:45 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
