KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Dakota State University men's basketball team (18-12 overall record) will face the national No. 5 seed McPherson (Kan.) (30-3) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is set for 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday night, March 7.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the bracket for the 21st Annual Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 32-team, single elimination format will take place from March 7-13 in Point Lookout, Mo., on the campus of College of the Ozarks.
The tournament kicks off at 8:30 a.m. (Central Standard Time) on the first three days, with eight games scheduled. The quarterfinal action starts at 1 p.m. on March 10 and the semifinals are set for March 12 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The championship final, which will be televised live on CBS Sports Network, will be tipped at 6 p.m. on March 13.
Dakota State will be making their second appearance to the NAIA national tournament for the second time in program history. The Trojans currently have 18 wins, the most wins since 1992 when Dakota State reached the NAIA's 'Final Four' with an overall record of 19-16 (3-1 in the national tournament). DSU qualified for the national tournament by defeating Valley City State (N.D.) 82-73 on Feb. 25 in the semifinals of the State Farm Association of Independent Institutions Tournament. Dakota State defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 80-71 in the championship game on Feb. 26.
McPherson is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and qualified for the national tournament by winning their regular-season title. The Bulldogs will be making their third appearance to the NAIA national tournament with an all-time tournament record of 2-2. McPherson won their conference tournament, defeating the second-seed Saint Mary (Kan.) 86-79 on Feb. 27.
