MADISON, S.D. - The Trojan softball team hosted Dickinson State in the final DAC four-game series this weekend at the Thue Softball Complex. The Blue Hawks swept the Trojans 7-0 and 6-1 Saturday.
Dakota State dropped their overall record to 8-31 and 3-19 in the DAC conference. Dickinson State, No. 12 in the latest NAIA Softball National Poll, won their 14th straight game to raise their overall record to 28-9 and 19-3 in the DAC.
After two scoreless innings, Brittney Rivas hit a solo home run to open the top of the third inning to give the Blue Hawks' 1-0 lead.
Dickinson State scored a combined six runs from the fourth to the sixth innings.
The Trojans were limited to three hits in the game.
Ashley Souphimdara went 2-for-3 for Dakota State. Kelsie Peterson added a single.
Rivas went 2-for-3 with a home run, a single and two RBIs for Dickinson State. Sara Jane Webster added a double and two singles. Jessica Huseby had a double, two singles and recorded three RBIs. Carly Patterson added a double.
Ashton Lansink suffered the loss for the Trojans. She tossed a complete game and allowed seven runs on 16 hits.
Webster (16-3) pitched a complete game win for Dickinson State. She struck out 12 batters.
Dickinson State scored three times in the top of the first inning and two runs in the top of the second inning for a 5-0 lead.
Peterson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning as the Trojans trimmed the Blue Hawks' lead to 5-1.
The Blue Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning.
Peterson went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Trojans. Amanda Stevenson and Souphimdara each had a single.
For Dickinson State, Taysia Kaufman went 2-for-3 with a triple and a single. Vanessa Adame, Nicole Youngblood, Kelly Jahn and Huseby each had two singles.
Lansink (4-19) took the loss for Dakota State. She pitched a complete game and gave up six runs (one unearned) on 14 hits.
Kaufman (6-5) recorded the victory for Dickinson State. She tossed a complete game and allowed one run on three hits. She struck out seven batters.
The Trojans will host Dickinson State Sunday in the final regular season finale. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. at the Thue Softball Complex. Senior Day will be recognized after the first game.
