YANKTON, S.D. - The Dakota State University softball team traveled to the Riverside Park for a non-conference doubleheader with Mount Marty Monday. The Lancers swept the Trojans 9-2 and 5-0.
The Trojans dropped their overall record to 3-10. Mount Marty lifted their overall record to 7-8.
Emily Girard opened the bottom of the first inning with a double for Mount Marty. Katrina Romero hit a RBI single to score Girard for Lancers' 1-0 lead.
Jayna Ackerman and Leslie Neiman recorded back-to-back home runs in the top of the second inning to give the Trojans' 2-1 lead.
The Lancers opened the bottom of the second inning with three straight singles from Alexandria Cihak, Courtney Mallinger and Abby Dickes. Mount Marty would score twice and overtook a 3-2 lead.
Mount Marty extended their lead with two runs scored in the bottom fourth inning for a 5-2 lead. The Lancers added four runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory over DSU.
The Lancers outhit the Trojans 16-7.
Ackerman and Neiman each went 2-for-3 with a home run and a RBI for Dakota State. Kelsie Peterson, Ashley Stevenson and Amanda Stevenson each recorded a single.
Six Mount Marty players recorded at least two hits in the game. Lauren Donlin had a home run and two RBIs. Mallinger went 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored.
Ashton Lansink (1-6) suffered the loss for the Trojans. She tossed six innings and gave up nine runs (one unearned) on 16 hits.
Brittany Bruns pitched a complete game win for Mount Marty. She allowed two runs on seven hits.
The Lancers scored twice in the opening inning. Kassie Loe hit a RBI double to score Girard. Donlin added a RBI single to score Loe for Lancers' 2-0 lead.
The Trojans could not convert their scoring opportunities in the top of the fourth inning with bases loaded and two outs situation.
Mount Marty scored twice in the fourth inning and once in the sixth inning to secure the win.
Both teams had seven hits in the game.
Jessica McLane went 2-for-3 for the Trojans. Amanda Stevenson, Ackerman, Lansink, Danielle Vitale and Laura Shanafelt each recorded a single.
Andrea Hansen recorded a home run and a single with two runs scored for Mount Marty. Donlin and Loe each had a double.
DSU left eight runners on base. The Lancers had seven runners left on base.
Maddie Willers (2-4) took the loss for the Trojans. She pitched a complete game and allowed five runs (one unearned) on seven hits. She struck out five batters.
Erica Loutsch earned a complete game victory for the Lancers. She allowed no runs on seven hits. She struck out five hitters.
The Trojans return home for the first time this season as they return to DAC conference action. Dakota State will host Valley City State in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. on each day at the Thue Complex.
