MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University volleyball team kicked off the 2013 season with its first practice Monday. Amy Veenhof is entering her fifth season as the Trojan Volleyball head coach. She is assisted by Megan Kusler, who is entering her second year as the DSU volleyball assistant coach.
Dakota State is one of the five charter members of the NAIA's newest conference this year - the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference. The other charter members of the NSAA include Jamestown (N.D.), Mayville State (N.D.), Presentation (S.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.). Dakota State was a member of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) for the past two years.
DSU have over 20 players on this year's team with seven returners from last year's team. The Trojans will have a junior varsity squad this season.
Dakota State opens their 2013 season on the road on Aug. 24. The Trojans visit Briar Cliff (Iowa) in Sioux City. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
The Trojans' first home volleyball match of the season is scheduled for Sept. 3 versus Briar Cliff. There will be a junior varsity match starting at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7:30 p.m. The matches will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse.
DSU plays its first NSAA conference match on the road at Presentation on Sept. 10 in Aberdeen, S.D. The first home NSAA conference match is slated for Sept. 20 versus Mayville State at DSU Fieldhouse.
