MADISON, S.D. – Preston Powell of Dakota State University (S.D.) football team was tabbed as North Star Athletic Association Football Player of the Week, announced Monday. He was selected as NSAA's Football Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Powell, 6-foot and 215 lbs. sophomore linebacker, recorded the first interception of the season for the Trojans in 14-13 defeat to Dordt (Iowa) last Saturday night. He intercepted Dordt Bryce Rusler's pass late in the first quarter. He had eight tackles in the game – four solo tackles and four assist tackles.
According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website, Powell ranks 17th in the nation in total interception.
Preston is the son of Kieth and Tawnya Powell of Forney, Texas. He is studying Biology at Dakota State University.
Dakota State plays its first ever NSAA football conference game on Saturday evening. The Trojans take on the league's preseason favorite Valley City State (N.D.). Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m. at Lokken Field in Valley City, N.D.
