MORRIS, Minn. - Dakota State snapped their four-match losing streak in volleyball action Saturday afternoon as they defeated Northland (Wis.) in three straight sets (26-24, 25-18 and 25-14) at the Physical Education Center, hosted by Minnesota-Morris. The Trojans dropped a four-set (25-18, 25-14, 18-25 and 25-22) to host-team UMM in the final match of the Minnesota-Morris triangular.
Dakota State's overall record stands at 9-12. Northland dropped to 6-12, while Minnesota-Morris raised their record to 11-6. Both Northland and UMM are members of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

Dakota State rallied back late in the first set to gain a 1-0 match lead. Trailing at 24-21, the Trojans saved three match points from the Lumberjacks. Kristen DiPaola recorded four kills in DSU's final five points (Stacey Schuller recorded a kill when as DSU trimmed their deficit to 24-22) of the first set for a 26-24 victory.
The Trojans jumped to a 12-5 lead in the second set. NC cut DSU's lead to 15-13. Dakota State secured the second set with a 10-5 closing run (25-18) to earn a 2-0 match lead. The Lumberjacks were held to a minus .054 hitting percentage compared to the Trojans' .105 hitting efficiency in the second set.
DSU had the largest lead of the match at 22-9 in the third set. The Trojans hit .407 attack percentage for a 25-14 third set win and secured the match in three straight sets.
DiPaola led DSU's offense attack with 16 kills. Taylor Mosco added 10 kills. Allison Thielsen and Caitlin Pick each had seven kills. Schuller produced 30 set assists.
Mandi Atkins recorded 12 digs for Trojans' defense. Schuller added 11 digs.
Pick had a solo block and three block assists for Dakota State. Shayna Dwyer added three block assists.
Tayler Viegut had eight attacks for Northland. Megan Zynda recorded 20 assists.
Gabby Jukkala had six service aces in the match for the Lumberjacks. Erin Roembke had 10 digs.
DSU outhit Northland 43-25 in the match. The Trojans had a .245 hitting percentage while the Lumberjacks recorded .029 hitting efficiency.
Dakota State had six team blocks compared to Northland two blocks. The Lumberjacks served nine aces while DSU had one service ace in the match.
Minnesota-Morris 3, Dakota State (S.D.) 1 - BOX SCORE
With the Cougars leading at 17-16, UMM went on to close the first set with an 8-2 scoring run for 25-18 victory to gain an 1-0 match lead. The Trojans were held to a .051 hitting percentage, while Minnesota-Morris had a .293 hitting efficiency.
Dakota State trailed at 16-12 in the second set. The Cougars used another strong closing run with a 9-2 run for a 25-14 second-set win to extend their match lead at 2-0.
With DSU leading at 16-14 in the third set, the Trojans went on with a 9-4 scoring run for a 25-18 victory. The Trojans cut the Cougars' match lead to 2-1. Dakota State recorded a hitting percentage of .484 compared to UMM .263 hitting percentage.
A total of 14 ties were featured in the fourth set. With UMM leading 23-22, the Cougars recorded two straight kills to secure the match at 3-1.
DiPaola recorded a double-double of 17 kills and 14 digs for DSU. Pick added 11 kills and three block assists. Mosco had seven kills and three block assists. Schuller recorded 38 assists.
Atkins had 16 digs and two service aces for the Trojans.
Four players recorded in double digits kills for UMM. Abby Tietz had 17 kills. Emily Auch added 15 kills. Alyssa Tyler had 13 kills. Hannah Knott recorded 11 attacks. Mandy ALlman produced 29 assists while Brooke Decker added 26 assists.
Kaylie Clark had 30 digs for Cougars' defense. Decker added 14 digs. Auch had 10 digs.
Minnesota-Morris outhit the Trojans 66-45. The Cougars recorded a .316 hitting percentage compared to the Trojans' .182 attack percentage.
Both teams had six blocks in the match.
Dakota State continues their action on the road next weekend. The Trojans travel to Denver, Colo. to play in the Johnson & Wales (Colo.) volleyball tournament. DSU kicks off the tournament facing Sterling (Kan.) on Friday, Oct. 5. The Trojans will play the host-team Johnson & Wales next Saturday (Oct. 6) and Southwest (N.M.). All matches will be held at the Wildcat Center.
