MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University volleyball team welcomed Waldorf (Iowa) and Peru State (Neb.) in a triangular Saturday at the DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans dropped a five-set thriller in the first match against the Warriors, but bounced back in the night cap to defeat the Bobcats in another five-set thriller for DSU's first win of the season.  All three teams split in the DSU triangular.

Dakota State is 1-4 overall record after the victory.  Waldorf is 3-7.  Peru State defeated Waldorf in three straight sets (25-21, 25-22 and 25-18) for their first win of the season and now stands at 1-5 after the loss to the Trojans.

A total of 13 ties and five lead changes were featured in the opening set.  At 23-23, Waldorf closed the first set by scoring two straight points for a 25-23 first set win.

The Warriors had a 24-22 lead in the second set.  The Trojans saved two set points as Kristen DiPaola smashed two straight kills.  DSU secured the second set by the score of 26-24 as WC's committed an attack error and a kill from Caitlin Pick to even the match at 1-1.

Waldorf jumped to an 11-6 lead in the third set.  DSU used a 10-1 scoring run to overtake the lead from the Warriors at 16-12.  With the Trojans leading at 18-16, Dakota State closed out the third set with a 7-4 run for a 25-19 win to earn a 2-1 match lead.

In the fourth set, the Warriors raced to a 16-7 lead.  DSU trimmed their deficit to 23-19, but could not complete a comeback as WC grabbed the fourth set at 25-21 to force the fifth and deciding set.

Dakota State opened the fifth set by DiPaola and Taylor Mosco's kills to earn a 2-0 lead.  The Warriors scored five straight points to earn a 5-2 lead.  Waldorf recorded a .313 killing percentage in the 15-8 fifth set win to gain a 3-2 match victory over the Trojans.  DSU was held to a .065 hitting efficiency.

DiPaola led the Trojans' offense attack with 19 kills.  She had 16 digs.  Pick and Mosco each added 13 kills.  Stacey Schuller produced 47 set assists.

Katie Green recorded a match-high of 39 digs for DSU.  Allison Thielsen added 21 digs and had three service aces.  Schuller had 11 digs.  Mosco had three blocks (one block solo and four block assists).

Brenna Brighma had 14 kills for the Warriors.  Meagan Macias and Klarissa Larsen each added 13 digs.  Becca Flavin recorded 30 assists, while Amelia Walz added 17 assists.

Walz had three service aces for WC.  Courtney Palmer led the Warriors' defense with 33 digs.  Jennifer Henke added 25 digs.  Abby Buehler had two block solos and three block assists (3.5 blocks).

Waldorf had 59 kills compared to the Trojans' 57, but DSU outhit the Warriors .157-.124 in killing percentage. 

DSU had 10 blocks, while Waldorf had six blocks.  The Trojans amassed 109 digs in the match compared to the Warriors' 107.

Waldorf recorded nine service aces in the game compared to DSU's six service aces.

Dakota State (S.D.) 3, Peru State (Neb.) 2

The Trojans won the opening set by the score of 25-21.  DSU recorded a hitting percentage of .209 compared to the Bobcats' .103 to earn the first set victory.

Peru State answered back with a 25-22 second set win by recording .286 hitting efficiency.  The Trojans had a .184 hitting percentage.

Dakota State raced to an 18-11 lead in the third set.  PSC trimmed their deficit to 19-18 with a 7-1 scoring run.  DSU earned a 2-1 match lead by closing the third set with a 6-2 run (25-20 third set DSU victory).

With Peru State leading at 20-18 in the fourth set, the Bobcats sealed the fourth set with a 5-2 run to force the decisive fifth set by the score of 25-20.  The Trojans were held to a .088 hitting percentage, while PSC had a hitting percentage of .189.

Dakota State jumped to a 7-3 lead in the final set.  Peru State answered back and tied the fifth set at 11-11.  DSU had a 14-12 lead, but the Bobcats tied the set at 14-14.  At 15-15, Mosco recorded two straight attacks as DSU earned a 3-2 match victory by recording a 17-15 fifth set thriller.

DiPaola amassed a total of 28 kills in the match, which tied for the second most kills in a match in the DSU's record book.  Mosco added 16 kills.  Pick recorded 11 kills.  Schuller produced 57 set assists.

Green led the Trojans' defense with 38 digs.  DiPaola added 19 digs.  Thielsen recorded 13 digs.  Pick had four block assists (two total blocks).  DiPaola and Schuller each had two service aces.

Tara Gonzalez had 16 kills for the Bobcats.  Brittany Peterson added 11 kills.  Courtney Jurek recorded 23 assists, while Paige Riza added 19 assists.

Emily Maresh had 36 digs for PSC.  Jurek added 16 digs.

Dakota State outhit Peru State 63-55 in kills and .161 to .144 in killing percentage. 

The Bobcats had 98 digs in the match compared to the Trojans' 95.

Dakota State looks to make two straight wins as they head on the road on Tuesday night.  The Trojans travel to Yankton, S.D. to take on their in-state rival Mount Marty.  First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Cimpl Arena.
