THIS WEEK:  Dakota State (0-1 overall record) prepares for their busy week with four matches scheduled this week.  The Trojans play a pair of opponents from the Great Plains Athletic Conference, traveling to Northwestern (Iowa) (4-0) on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and hosting Morningside (Iowa) (4-0) at DSU Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 7 p.m.  Dakota State will be hosting a triangular on Saturday with Waldorf (Iowa) (1-7) and Peru State (Neb.) (0-4) at DSU Fieldhouse with the first match starting at 2 p.m.

DSU TRIANGULAR:  On Saturday, Dakota State welcomes Waldorf (Iowa) and Peru State (N.D.) in a triangular at DSU Fieldhouse.  The first match starts with the host-team DSU and Waldorf (Iowa) at 2 p.m.  At 4 p.m. or approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game, Waldorf and Peru State will face each other.  In the nightcap at 6 p.m., the Trojans play Peru State.

LAST MEETING: Northwestern (Iowa) swept the Trojans in 2010 in both teams' last meetings.  The Red Raiders defeated DSU 3-0 in the USF Classic (Sept. 3, 2010) and Hastings Classic (Sept. 10, 2010).  Morningside won the last meeting from Dakota State on Aug. 31, 2011 in Sioux City, Iowa by the score of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-14.  Dakota State defeated Waldorf (Iowa) on Oct. 15, 2011 in four sets (27-29, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17) in Forest City, Iowa as part of Waldorf triangular.  The last time DSU and Peru State (Neb.) met was on Sept. 1, 2006 in the Bellevue Labor Day Classic.  The Trojans beat the Bobcats in four sets by the score of 30-15, 24-30, 33-31 and 30-23.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State kicked off their 2012 season last Friday night versus Briar Cliff (Iowa). The Trojans jumped to a 2-0 lead over the Chargers (26-24 and 25-18), but fell in the final three sets by the scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 15-8. Northwestern (Iowa) and Morningside (Iowa) each went 4-0 in the Red Raiders Classic on Aug. 24 and 25. NWIA defeated Peru State, Valley City State, Dickinson State and Grace (Ind.). The Mustangs beat Jamestown, Baker (Kan.), Peru State and Dickinson State. Waldorf went 0-4 in the Grand View University Tournament last weekend, losing to Hastings (Neb.), Evangel (Mo.), Judson (Ill.) and Benedictine (Ill.). The Warriors will host AIB (Iowa) on Thursday night before heading to Madison, S.D. on Saturday. Peru State was winless in four matches at the Red Raiders Classic last weekend in Orange City, Iowa. The Bobcats lost to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), Northwestern (Iowa), No. 19 Bellevue (Neb.) and Morningside.

INDEPENDENT VOLLEYBALL JAMBOREE:  Six independent schools will play in the Independent Volleyball Jamboree at DSU Fieldhouse on the weekend of Sept. 21-22. Teams included in the jamboree are host-team Dakota State, Ashford (Iowa), Jamestown (N.D.), Mayville State (N.D.), South Dakota Mines and Valley City State (N.D.). The jamboree hits off at 10 a.m. on Sept. 21 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 22 with six matches scheduled on each day.

DSU QUICK LEADERS:  Kristen DiPaola leads the Trojans' offense attack with 22 kills. She ranks eighth in the nation in kills per set (4.4). Katie Green records two service aces and 19 digs for the Trojans. Stacey Schuller ranks 49th in the nation in assists per game (7.8—39 total). Taylor Mosco records three blocks for DSU.

COACHES' CORNER:  Amy Veenhof enters her fourth season as head coach at Dakota State. She has coached three all-conference players and seven NAIA Academic All-American scholar athletes. Megan Kusler is in her first season as an assistant coach.

UP NEXT:  Dakota State heads to Yankton, S.D. to take on in-state rival Mount Marty on Sept. 4. First serve from the Cimpl Arena is set for 7 p.m. The Trojans head to the Corn Palace on Sept. 7 and 8 in Mitchell, S.D. DSU plays four matches (South Dakota Mines, Clarke (Iowa), Saint Mary (Neb.) and host-team Dakota Wesleyan in the two-day event.
