RAPID CITY, S.D. - NCAA Division II South Dakota Mines swept Dakota State in three straight sets (25-21, 25-14 and 25-21) in the battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference foes Saturday afternoon at King Center.
Dakota State ends their regular-season with an overall record of 16-20. South Dakota Mines finished their season with a record of 26 wins and five losses.
Both teams recorded 15 kills in the opening set, but the Hardrockers secured the first-set with a 25-21 victory.
SD Mines recorded a .545 hitting percentage in the second set for a 25-14 win and a 2-0 match lead over the Trojans. DSU had a .107 hitting efficiency in the second-set.
The Hardrockers secured the match with a 25-21 third-set victory.
Stephanie Kruggel had a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs for Dakota State. Kristen DiPaola added 10 kills. Lauren LaBar and Caitlin Pick each had five kills. Stacy Schuller produced 25 assists.
Justine Blade had 13 kills for the Hardrockers. Janelle Strampe added seven kills. Hannah Glocke had 27 assists. Renna Roberson had nine digs. Madisen Lane recorded three service aces.
SD Mines outhit the Trojans 43-35 in the match. The Hardrockers recorded a killing percentage of .299 compared to the Trojans' .202.
Dakota State heads in the postseason play next weekend. The Trojans compete in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Volleyball Tournament on the campus of Arizona Christian in Phoenix, Ariz. DSU kicks off with the pool play with No. 1 seed La Sierra (Calif.) at 11 a.m. (Central Time)/10 a.m. (Mountain Time) and No. 4 seed Mayville State at 7 p.m. (CT)/6 p.m. (MT) on Friday.
