MADISON, S.D. - As Dakota State struggled in the first set, the Trojans went on to win three straight sets to record a big win over their in-state rival University of Sioux Falls Friday night at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans recorded a 3-1 match victory by the scores of 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23 as DSU improved their home record to 5-1.

Dakota State improved their overall record to 10-14. University of Sioux Falls, an independent member of NCAA Division II, dropped their record to 6-18.

Both teams tied the first set nine times. At 16-16, the Cougars used a 9-2 closing run to secure the first set win. USF accumulated 15 kills compared to the Trojans' seven in the opening set.

DSU led 12-10 in the second set. USF went on to score five straight points to overtake a 15-12 lead. At 20-20, the Trojans closed the second set with a 5-2 run to even the match at 1-1.

University of Sioux Falls raced to a 9-4 lead in the third set. The Trojans answered back with an 8-1 run to take their first lead of the third set at 12-10. DSU increased their lead to 19-13. Dakota State went on to secure the third set (25-19) for a 2-1 match lead.

With USF leading at 8-5 in the fourth set, the Trojans used a 10-1 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Cougars trimmed DSU's lead to 18-17 and 19-18. DSU went on to score four straight points to take a 23-18 lead. USF rallied back with a 5-1 run to cut DSU's lead to 24-23. An attack error by USF ended the match as DSU sealed the victory. The Trojans recorded a .323 killing percentage compared to USF's .156 in the fourth set.

Stephanie Kruggel led the Trojans' offense with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .310. Lauren LaBar added nine kills. Cailtin Pick recorded six kills. Stacey Schuller produced 28 set assists.

Katie Green and LaBar each had eight digs for DSU. Mandi Atkins recorded four service aces. Kruggel, LaBar and Schuller each added two service aces.

LaBar had two solo blocks and two block assists for the Trojans. Pick added a solo block and three block assists.

For USF, Chanda Goedken had 21 kills and 14 digs. Alyssa Chambers added eight kills. Charlee Nelson contributed 38 assists.

Goedken and Tashayla Person each had 14 digs for the Cougars. Sarah Kohler had five block assists. Chambers added six block assists. Samantha Lovell added two solo blocks and two block assists.

Emily Johnson and Lovell recorded two service aces for USF.

USF had 46 kills compared to the Trojans' 41. The Cougars committed 29 attack errors while DSU had 19. University of Sioux Falls had 10 blocks compared to the Trojans' eight.

Both teams struggled at the serving ling, serving below 90 percent accuracy. The Trojans amassed 11 service aces and committed 11 service errors (88 percent serving accuracy). USF had nine aces and 10 service errors (88.9 percent serving accuracy).

Dakota State looks to continue to improve their home record as they take on NCAA Division III University of Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday night. The annual 'Dig Pink' event will start with a junior varsity match at 6 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
