THIS WEEK: After recording two impressive comeback victories last week, Dakota State concludes their three-match home stand at DSU Fieldhouse on Wednesday night versus NCAA Division III Presentation (S.D.) at 7 p.m. The Trojans head to North Dakota to face two former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) foes this weekend. DSU visits Mayville State on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Mayville, N.D. Dakota State travels to Valley City State for the second meeting within one week. First serve is set for 5 p.m. in Valley City, N.D.
LAST TIME OUT: The Trojans posted two dramatic comeback wins last week. After facing 0-2 deficit at Mount Marty on Sept. 20, DSU defeated the Lancers in five sets (17-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-17 and 15-10). The Trojans dropped their first homecoming match to NCAA Division II South Dakota Mines (19-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 23-25) last Friday. DSU bounced back and defeated Valley City State in another comeback win (21-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-18 and 15-11) last Saturday.
THEME: Pajama party is the theme for the Trojan volleyball match with Presentation on Wednesday night. Come to the DSU Fieldhouse dressed in your pajamas!
LAST MEETING: Dakota State recorded a .323 killing percentage in a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-13 and 27-25) over Presentation on Sept. 14 in Aberdeen, S.D. DSU and Mayville State will meet for the first time this season on Friday. They will meet again as part of DSU Triangular with Oklahoma Wesleyan on Oct. 22 in Madison, S.D. The Comets won the last meeting from DSU at DSU Fieldhouse on Nov. 3, 2010 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-19). The Trojans defeated Mayville State 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 12-25, 25-12 and 15-9) in the last meeting held in Mayville, N.D. on Oct. 6, 2010. Valley City State and Dakota State split their two meetings this season with each team winning once. Both matches went to five sets. The Vikings defeated DSU at the Corn Palace on Sept. 2 in Mitchell, S.D. (18-25, 28-26, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-13). The Trojans came back and defeated VCSU in a five-set thriller last Saturday at DSU Fieldhouse.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Stephanie Kruggel and Kristen DiPaola had recorded double digits in kills in the last five matches for Dakota State. DiPaola had set a new school record for most kills in a match with 31 at Mount Marty on Sept. 20. She was named to the A.I.I. Female Athlete of the Week, announced Monday morning.
COACHES' CORNER: Amy Veenhof enters her third season as head coach at Dakota State. She has coached one all-conference player and five NAIA Academic All-American scholar athletes. Jessica VanLoy is in her first season as an assistant coach. She will guide the Trojans' junior varsity volleyball program this fall. Becky Smith is in her first year as a student assistant coach.
