MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University volleyball team is honoring their teammate Ashley Engel on Wednesday night in their first home volleyball match of the season. The Trojans host Mount Marty with the junior varsity match at 6 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
Prior to the varsity match, the DSU volleyball team will remember Engel who was in a boating accident on July 18 and passed away. Engel transferred to DSU last spring semester and became an integral part of the Trojan volleyball team. She coached the Madison Area Junior Olympic 12-and-under volleyball team. She also assisted with DSU volleyball summer camps.
Fans and supporters are encouraged to wear pink or purple clothing to the match on Wednesday night in honor of Engel's favorite colors. There will be pink and purple bracelets on sale for one dollar each to support the Engel family. Engel's sister, Allison (12 years old), will be doing the first serve of the varsity match.
