THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University volleyball team (1-3 overall record) travels to Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday to play Morningside at RVSC-Allee Gym. After a match-up against the Mustangs, the Trojans will hit the road again in the Corn Palace Classic in Mitchell, S.D. DSU will square off against four teams beginning with Montana State-Northern and Valley City State on Friday. Dakota State will then play Dickinson State and Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday.
MATCH TIMES: The Trojans' match against Morningside is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dakota State's first match at the Corn Palace Classic starts at 2 p.m. against Montana State-Northern (it was originally set to play at 4 p.m., but was rescheduled to 2 p.m.) on Friday followed by a 6 p.m. match with Valley City State. Saturday's match against Dickinson State will begin at 11 a.m. DSU concludes the classic at 6 p.m. at DWU. All times are central.
LAST MEETING: It has been almost six full years that DSU and Morningside met last time. The Trojans defeated the Mustangs in five-set thriller at DSU Fieldhouse on Sept. 26, 2006 in Madison, S.D. Dakota State and Montana State-Northern will meet for the first time in team history. DSU will face their former Dakota Athletic Conference foes (Valley City State and Dickinson State) this weekend. The Trojans split with Valley City State last season. DSU defeated the Vikings 3-1 in Madison on Sept. 24. VCSU won in five-set in Valley City, N.D. last October. Dickinson State won both meetings from the Trojans last fall. The Trojans and Tigers split their two meetings last season, with each winning on its home court. DWU defeated Dakota State in five sets on Sept. 28, 2010 in Mitchell. Dakota State swept the Tigers in the second meeting on Oct. 20 in Madison.
LAST WEEK: Dakota State opened their 2011 campaign by recording 1-3 record at the Grand View Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa last weekend. The Trojans picked up their lone victory against College of St. Mary (Neb.) (3-1) and lost to Evangel (Mo.) (3-0), St. Xavier (Ill.) (3-1) and Park (Mo.) (3-0).
SENIORS LEADERSHIP: Stephanie Kruggel (Winthrop, Minn.) racked up 42 kills in four matches last weekend. She leads the team with 3.0 kills per set and a killing percentage of .229. Kruggel leads the team in blocks with 15 - four solo blocks and 11 block assists. She averaged 1.07 blocks per set. Lauren LaBar (Wilbaux, Mont.) recorded 25 kills (1.79 kills per set).
OFFENSIVE FORCES: Junior Kristen DiPaola (Trinidad, Colo.) amassed 41 kills last weekend at the Grand View Tournament. She averaged 2.93 kills per set. She added eight blocks (0.57 per set). Freshman setter Stacey Schuller (Jackson, Minn.) leads the team with 111 assists (7.93 assists per set).
COACHES' CORNER: Amy Veenhof enters her third season as head coach at Dakota State She has coached an all-conference athlete and five NAIA Academic All-American scholar-athletes. Jessica VanLoy is in her first season as an assistant coach. She will guide the Trojans' junior varsity program this fall.

UP NEXT: On Sept. 7, Dakota State returns home for the first time this season. The Trojans host their in-state rival Mount Marty of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The junior varsity match will start at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
