MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University volleyball team under the guidance of third-year head coach Amy Veenhof, began practice Monday. The Trojans are looking forward to another exciting season, where they become a member of the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.).
The Trojans will be returning seven athletes from last year's team. Seniors Stephanie Kruggel and Lauren LaBar will be returning to the team. In addition, defensive specialists Katie Green (junior) and Mandi Atkins (sophomore) will return along with juniors Jennifer Wepking and Stephanie Uher. Sophomore Shayna Dwyer also returns to the team.
The Dakota State University volleyball team will have eleven new faces this year. The Trojans will have a junior varsity team this fall, under the guidance of DSU's volleyball assistant coach Jessica VanLoy.
DSU volleyball team will hold their 'media day' on Sunday, Aug. 21 in the DSU Fieldhouse at 2 p.m.
Dakota State opens their 2011 season at the Grand View (Iowa) tournament on the weekend of Aug. 26-27. The tournament will be held in Des Moines, Iowa. The Trojans face Evangel (Mo.) and St. Xavier (Ill.) on the first day of the tournament on Aug. 26. On Aug. 27, DSU will play College of St. Mary (Neb.) and Park (Mo.).
