The Trojan women's volleyball began putting a cap on their spring volleyball court work by playing the Dakota State Unviersity's Alumni on Saturday, April 9 here at the DSU Fieldhouse.
DSU's head coach Amy Veenhof will take her women to Mitchell for scrimmages against Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty Wednesday (tomorrow). On Friday, the spring season concludes with scrimmages against the University of Sioux Falls and its alumni.
Veenhof feels that DSU's defense was ahead of the rest of the other aspects of the game Saturday.
"I thought defensively we did pretty well," stated Veenhof. "Our front row got some blocks and we had a lot of good touches. Our back-row defense was pretty aggressive. We were able to pick up a lot of balls."
"I think we need to work on serving, passing, offense and communication" she stressed. "Serving and passing are always going to be things we focus on. We also want to improve on offense. We have two new setters who are still learning our system and getting familiar with our hitters. It's going to take a little more time. We have a lot of new players that need to get comfortable playing together."
Veenhof added, "The alumni who came back and played on Saturday are a great group of players. They all have a lot of experience playing volleyball and a number of them still play competitively. There were several all-conference performers in that group."
The Trojans return to Madison and the DSU Fieldhouse on June 20 to June 23 to assist with high school summer camps.
