The Dakota State University volleyball team took their last regular season trip to North Dakota Friday and Saturday. The Trojans suffered a 3-0 defeat to Jamestown on Friday. DSU lost in five sets to Valley City State on Saturday afternoon
Dakota State dropped their overall record to 11-18 and 4-7 in the DAC.
After all completed DAC matches this weekend, the Trojans remained in sole possession for fifth place. DSU owns a tiebreaker over Valley City State if both teams concluded the regular season with the same DAC conference record (DSU defeated VCSU on Sept. 23 in four sets in Madison, S.D.).
Jamestown 3, Dakota State 0 - Box Score
The DAC's co-leader Jamestown dominated the Trojans in three sets (25-14, 25-11 and 25-18) at the Hansen Center on Friday night.
Ashley Schulte had three kills for DSU. She had four block assists. Mollie Merriam, Mandy Frogner and Mandy Baxa each had two kills. Merriam recorded nine set assists.
Merriam led the Trojans' defense with 12 digs. Katie Green added 10 digs. Stephanie Kruggel had four block assists.
Mandi Atkins recorded two service aces for Dakota State.
The Trojans had 12 kills in the match, but suffered 17 attack errors with a killing efficiency of -.063.
No statistics were reported for Jamestown.
Valley City State 3, Dakota State 2 - Box Score
The Vikings rallied back from 0-2 deficit to defeat the Trojans in five close sets at the Graichen Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Dakota State won the first two sets by the score of 25-23 and 26-24. Valley City State won the third set (25-21) and fourth set (25-23) to force the deciding set.
VCSU won the fifth and deciding set by the score of 15-12.
Three players recorded in double-double digits for Dakota State. Amy Pheneger had 14 kills and 14 digs. Kruggel recorded 18 assists and 23 digs. Merriam had 29 assists and 23 digs.
Schulte added 17 kills for the Trojans. She recorded a solo block and seven block assists. Baxa had nine kills, a solo block and four block assists.
Pheneger and Kruggel each recorded three block assists.
Four players recorded in double digits in kills for Valley City State. Kadee Melby had 17 kills. Mariah Martin added 14 kills. Jasmine Nyx had 12 kills and Sabrina Heywood had 10 kills. Kelsey Hanson produced 41 assists. Anna Neufeld added 16 assists.
Mardee Lander led the Vikings' defense with 26 digs. Nyx added 20 digs.
VCSU outhit DSU 63-56. The Vikings recorded 10 service aces compared to the Trojans' four.
Dakota State had 12 team blocks compared to the Vikings' seven. The Trojans recorded 100 digs and Valley City State had 83 digs.
DSU returns home to conclude their three-match home stand on Friday. The Trojans will host Dickinson State on Friday night as part of Jersey Night and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
