MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University volleyball team continued their five-match home stand on Wednesday. The Trojans hosted Mount Marty in a non-conference match at the DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State kicked off the homecoming week with a 3-0 sweep over the Lancers.
Dakota State snapped their four-match losing streak and raised their overall record to 6-11. Mount Marty dropped their overall record to 3-7. The Trojans swept the season series with the Lancers, including a 3-0 sweep in Yankton, S.D. on Aug. 31.
In the opening set, Dakota State and Mount Marty tied the set 10 times. With Mount Marty leading at 18-15, the Trojans went on a 10-3 closing run for a 25-21 first set win.
The Trojans raced to a 14-1 run to open the second set. DSU held the Lancers to eight points to grab a 2-0 match lead.
Dakota State continued their run in the third set with a 12-4 lead. The Trojans secured the match with a 25-15 third set victory.
Ashley Schulte led the Trojans' offense with 13 kills and .722 killing efficiency. Margie Anthony added 10 kills. Mollie Merriam contributed 21 set assists. Stephanie Kruggel added 14 assists.
Amy Pheneger recorded 14 digs for DSU. Mandi Atkins had 12 digs.
For Mount Marty, Maggie Goree had six kills. Kate Lingscheit added five kills. Tina Rowbotham produced eight assists.
Rowbotham and Kayla Ranek each had 10 digs for Mount Marty.
Dakota State outhit the Lancers 40-22 and .367-.122. The Trojans recorded seven attack errors compared to the Lancers' 12.
The Trojans look to continue their winning streak this weekend. DSU returns back to DAC conference action on Friday night as they host Valley City State. First serve is slated at 7 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
