THIS WEEK: The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (6-18 overall record, 0-6 Association of Independent Institutions conference record) concludes their regular-season schedule on the road this week. The Lady T's play a pair of A.I.I. conference games in North Dakota. On Wednesday night, DSU visits the nationally-ranked Jamestown (22-5, 5-3 A.I.I.) at the Civic Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Jamestown, N.D. The Lady T's play their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Valley City State (N.D.) (20-6, 7-4 A.I.I.). The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City, N.D.
DSU VS. RANKED TEAMS: Dakota State will be facing their an opponent that are nationally-ranked for the tenth time this season on Wednesday evening. The Lady T's had played seven nationally-ranked in the a span of three weeks. DSU is seeking for their first win versus a team that is ranked in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll.
1,000-POINT CLUB UNDER WATCH: Junior Kylie Westover is 56 points away to join the 1000-point club at Dakota State. She has accumulated a total of 944 career point as a Lady T. She recorded 233 points in her freshman season, 335 points in her sophomore year and 376 points this season. She is averaging 15.0 points per game this season and ranks 49th in 3-point field goals made per game (2.0). She is currently fourth in the Lady T's record book for career 3-pointers with 161, two 3-pointers shy for tying the third-most career 3-pointers (Heidi Honermannâ€”163 3-pointers from 1997-2001).
DSU IN TOP 20: According to the DakStats statistical website as of Monday, Dakota State ranks in the top 20 in five different categories. The Lady T's are 10th in the nation in blocks per game (4.6) and free-throw percentage (73.7 percent). DSU ranks 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (43.9 percent), 13th in total blocks (110) and 17th in assists per game (16.5).
DROOGER BLOCKS RANKS: Alyson Drooger ranks second in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 3.7 blocks per game. She is sixth in the nation in total blocks with 73. Drooger's 73 blocks is eighth-most career blocks in the Lady T's record book and second-most blocks in a single season. Maria Gengler holds the school record for most career blocks (264) and most blocks in a single season with 102 blocks.
DISHING OUT ASSISTS: Yui Onodera is 33rd in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 1.8. She ranks 50th in the nation in both assists per game (3.6) and total assists (89). She accumulates a total of 221 assists during her four-year career at Dakota State. DSU ranks 33rd in the nation in total assists with 397 assists. The Lady T's are 46th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio of 0.8.
LAST MEETING: Jamestown had won the last ten meetings with Dakota State, with the most recent 82-70 victory at the DSU Fieldhouse on Feb. 2. The Jimmies defeated the Lady T's 97-72 at the Civic Center in Jamestown, N.D. on Jan. 19 as part of Dakota Tip-off Classic. The last time DSU defeated JC was on Jan. 10, 2009 at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's upset No. 4 Jamestown by the score of 70-68. Valley City State won both meetings with Dakota Stateâ€”71-52 in the Dakota Tip-off Classic on Jan. 20 in Jamestown, N.D. and 57-54 at the DSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 24 in Madison, S.D. VCSU had won the last eight meetings in the series with the Lady T's.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State dropped a pair of games last week. The Lady T's lost their regular-season home finale on Feb. 2 at DSU Fieldhouse. The nationally-ranked Mayville State (N.D.) defeated DSU by the score of 77-43. On Feb. 9, the Lady T's traveled to Fremont, Neb. to take on Midland (Neb.). The Warriors defeated Dakota State 77-66. Jamestown was upset by their long-time rival Valley City State at the Civic Center on Feb. 6. The Vikings posted a 54-48 victory over the Jimmies. JC bounced back in the winning column on Feb. 10 with a 72-58 win over former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) foe South Dakota Mines 72-58. Valley City State posted two wins last week, including an upset victory at Jamestown and a 64-58 home win over the Hardrockers on Feb. 9.
LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover is averaging 15.0 points per game for the Lady T's this season. She shoots 40.1 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger averages 6.0 rebounds per game (120 total rebounds). She leads the team in blocked shots with 72 (3.7 blocks per game). Yui Onodera dishes out 89 assists (3.6 assists per game). Julie Munson records 37 steals (1.5 steals per game).
