MAYVILLE, N.D. - Dakota State earned a slim 25-24 halftime lead over the nationally-ranked Mayville State (N.D.) in an Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference game at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse Wednesday night.  The Comets outscored the Lady T's 42-30 in the second half to record a 66-55 victory.

Dakota State, which played their second straight road games in two days, dropped their overall record to 6-15 and 0-4 in the A.I.I.  Mayville State, ranked No. 19 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll, improved their record to 18-2 and 6-1 A.I.I.

Both teams went through the scoring drought in the first two minutes and 37 seconds of the game.  Kylie Westover of DSU broke that drought by making a field goal to give the Lady T's a 2-0 lead with 17:23 remaining in the first-half.

The biggest lead in the first-half was five points by both teams.  DSU had a five-point lead on two occasions (13-8 with 10:04 left and 15-10 with 9:58 remaining). 

The Comets used a 10-0 scoring run to regain their lead at 20-15 with 7:01 remaining before intermission.

DSU closed the first-half with a 10-4 run to gain a one-point lead at halftime (25-24).

The Lady T's shot 33.3 percent from the field (11-for-33) in the first twenty minutes of the game, including 3-for-8 from the 3-point line.  Mayville State was 10-for-32 from the field (31.3 percent).  DSU held the Comets to 2-for-18 from the 3-point arc (11.1 percent) in the first half.

MaSU opened the second-half with a 7-2 scoring run to overtake the lead at 31-27 with 17:47 remaining.  From there, the Comets maintained control for the rest of the second-half.

Dakota State could get no closer than two points on two occasions (31-29 with 17:16 left in the game and 36-34 with 14:37 remaining).

The Comets shot 48.4 percent from the field (15-for-31) in the second-half compared to the Lady T's 35.5 percent (11-for-31).  Mayville State was 10-for-14 from the free-throw line, while DSU made seven free-throws in eight attempts in last twenty minutes of the game.

DSU's Cassie Jacobsen shot 7-for-15 from the field, including 3-for-3 from the free-throw line for 18 points.  Kendra Lindblad added 11 points off the bench.  Courtney Hamblin added nine points. 

Courtney Hulstein grabbed seven rebounds for the Lady T's.  Westover added six rebounds.

Yui Onodera dished out five assists for DSU.  Hamblin added four assists.

Marcisa McMillian had a double-double of 22 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Mayville State.  She was 10-for-14 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.  Hailey Longtin added 17 points.  Sabrina Rude had nine rebounds.  Samantha Heier produced six assists.

The Comets shot 39.7 percent overall from the field (25-for-63) compared to DSU's 34.4 percent (22-for-64).  Both teams struggled from the 3-point arc as the Lady T's went 4-for-20 (20 percent), while MaSU went 4-for-29 (13.8 percent).

Mayville State went to the free-throw line 19 times in the game, converting 12 free-throws (63.2 percent).  DSU was 7-for-8 at the free-throw line (87.5 percent - all in the second-half).

The Comets had a 40-31 rebounding advantage over the Lady T's.

Both teams will meet for the second meeting of the season next Wednesday at the DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State returns home Saturday afternoon.  The Lady T's kick off their final two-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse, starting with No. 15 Jamestown (N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
