THIS WEEK: Dakota State (5-12 overall record, 0-2 Association of Independent Institutions conference record) returns home this week for a pair of home games at DSU Fieldhouse. Valley City State (N.D.) (17-4, 5-2 A.I.I.) will play the Lady T's for the second time in five days on Thursday evening. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. On Saturday afternoon, Dakota State entertains Trinity Bible (N.D.) (9-9) as part of Parents' Night. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
LAST MEETING: Dakota State and Valley City State met not too long ago on Jan. 20 in the Dakota Tip-off Classic's consolation game in Jamestown, N.D. The Vikings held a 33-30 halftime lead and outscored the Lady T's 38-22 in the second-half to earn a 71-52 victory. VCSU had won the last seven meetings in the series with Dakota State. The last time DSU defeated the Vikings was on Jan. 26, 2010 with a 77-75 victory at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's raced to a 36-15 and defeated Trinity Bible (N.D.) in both teams' last meeting on Nov. 15, 2012 in Ellendale. The Lions were held to a 18.8 percent shooting in the first-half, while the Lady T's shot 48.5 percent overall from the field.
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME: Prior to the women's basketball game on Saturday, there is a high school girls' basketball game between Fulda (Minn.) and Summit (S.D.). Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse. Summit, member of Eastern Couteau Conference, is the current top-ranked team in Class 'B' Girls with an undefeated 12-0 record. Under the guidance of head coach Mark Amdahl, the Eagles captured the State Class 'B' Champions in 2012. Fulda is a member of the Red Rock League with an overall record of 11-5 and 6-3 in league play. The Raiders are coached by Gregg Slaathaug.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State lost three games last week away from the DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's lost to long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Jan. 16 by the score of 78-69. DSU dropped a pair of games in the Dakota Tip-off Classic against nationally-ranked teams. No. 13 Jamestown (N.D.) defeated the Lady T's 97-72 on Jan. 19. No. 13 Valley City State (N.D.) escaped in the second-half with a 71-52 victory over DSU on Jan. 20. The Vikings split a pair of games in Jamestown, losing to rival Mayville State (N.D.) 65-59 and defeating Dakota State 71-52 on Jan. 20. Trinity Bible recorded their second straight win on Jan. 18 with a 72-51 win over Dakota College at Bottineau in Ellendale, N.D.
DSU IN TOP 15: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Tuesday, Dakota State ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage (46.5 percent). The Lady T's are seventh in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 4.8 blocks. DSU is 10th in total defense rebound per game (34.3). The Lady T's is 11th in the nation in free-throw percentage (73 percent), 12th in assists per game (17.6) and 14th in total blocks (82).
BLOCKS RANKS: Alyson Drooger is currently third in the Lady T's basketball record book for most blocked shots in a single season with 64 (Maria Gengler currently holds the school record with the most blocks in a single seasonâ€”102 in 2007-08). Drooger leads the A.I.I. Conference in the blocks category. She ranks third in the nation in blocks per game (3.6) and fourth in total blocks (64). Drooger had set the school record for most blocked shots in a single game with 11 versus Mount Marty on Dec. 5, 2012 at DSU Fieldhouse.
DRAINING 3s: Kylie Westover accumulated a total of 148 3-pointers during her career at Dakota State. She ranks 48th in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (2.1). In addition, Westover ranks 37th in the nation in points per game with an average of 16.2 points per game. During her career at DSU, she had amassed a total of 859 points.
INDEPENDENT SPEAKING: Dakota State is currently seventh in the latest Independent weekly ranking as of Monday, Jan. 21. Jamestown (N.D.) (18-3 overall record) had took over the top spot in the independent ranking after capturing the Dakota Tip-off Classic championship on Jan. 20. Mayville State (N.D.) (16-2) had moved to second spot in the ranking. Valley City State (17-4) had dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 in the ranking. Ashford (Iowa) (10-13) sits at No. 4, followed by Johnson & Wales (Colo.) (9-15) at No. 5 and No. 6 Rochester (Mich.) (8-9). La Sierra (Calif.) (10-12) is No. 8 in the ranking. The A.I.I. Division II Women's Basketball Conference Postseason Tournament will be held in Jamestown, N.D. on Feb. 22 through Feb. 24.
LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's offensive attack with an average of 16.2 points per game and shoots 44 percent from the field. Alyson Drooger records 110 rebounds for an average of 6.1 rebounds per game. She leads the team in blocked shots with 64 (3.6 blocks per game). Yui Onodera dishes out 61 assists this season and averages 3.4 assists per game. Julie Munson records 22 steals (1.3 steals per game).

There will be a junior varsity game at 4:45 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. Both games will be held at the Cimpl Arena. The Lady T's return home on Feb. 2 for an A.I.I. match-up with Jamestown (N.D.) Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
