BISMARCK, N.D. - Mary (N.D.), a member of the NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), defeated Dakota State Sunday afternoon in women's basketball action at the McDowell Activity Center.
The game counted as an exhibition game for the Lady T's. Dakota State remains at 4-7 overall record. Mary raised their overall record to 8-3. Both teams were former members of the original Dakota Athletic Conference-10 (DAC-10).
The Marauders never trailed in the game and won by the score of 108-37.
Mary scored its first six points of the game in two minutes to earn a 6-0 lead.
The Lady T's made their first basket from Alyson Drooger with 17 minutes and 53 seconds left in the first-half.
Mary raced to a 61-14 halftime lead. The Marauders missed only nine shots in the first-half (23-of-32 - 71.9 percent) compared to DSU's 21.2 percent (7-for-33).
The Marauders outscored the Lady T's 47-23 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Courtney Hulstein scored eight points off the bench for Dakota State. Drooger added six points. She had six rebounds and recorded eight blocked shots in the game. Cassie Jacobsen and Kylie Westover each added six points.
Kaitlyn Haag shot 9-for-11 from the field and made four free-throws to earn 22 points for Mary. She had four blocks. Brittney Dietz added 21 points off the bench. Taylor Luke made six 3-pointers for 18 points. Ali Collins and Shanara Clark each grabbed seven rebounds. Lindsey Sand dished out six assists.
Mary shot 63.6 percent overall from the field (42-for-66) compared to the Lady T's 26.2 percent (17-for-65). The Marauders drained 14 3-pointers in 19 attempts (73.7 percent), while DSU was 2-for-16 from the 3-point line.
Mary outrebounded DSU 47-28.
Dakota State returns back to regular-season action on Saturday. The Lady T's kick off their 2013 portion of the schedule with a two-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse. DSU entertains Midland (Neb.) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
