MANKATO, Minn. - NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato started the game with an 8-0 run Wednesday night with Dakota State Lady T's basketball game at the Taylor Center. The Mavericks never trailed in the game as they defeated the Lady T's by the score of 85-42.
The game was counted as an exhibition game for Dakota State, which remained at 4-7 overall record. Minnesota State-Mankato, member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), raised their overall record to 8-1.
The Lady T's broke their scoring drought with seventeen minutes and four seconds left by Courtney Hamblin's basket (8-2 MSUM lead).
The Mavericks raced to a 45-19 halftime lead.
Minnesota State-Mankato went 18-for-39 from the field (46.2 percent) in the first twenty minutes of the game. The Mavericks were 3-for-11 from the3-point range and 6-for-8 at the free-throw line. The Lady T's shot 38.1 percent (8-for-21) and 1-for-6 from the3-point arc. DSU converted two free-throws in six attempts.
MSUM outscored the Lady T's 40-23 in the second-half.
Hamblin led Dakota State with 10 points. She was 4-for-6 from the field. Cassie Jacobsen added eight points. Kylie Westover scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds.
Jacobsen, Alyson Drooger and Westover each dished out two assists. Drooger recorded two blocked shots.
Ali Wilkinson poured in 27 points for the Mavericks. She shot 11-for-16 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Karlee Gengenbacher added 16 points. Alli Hoefer scored 10 points.
Jamie Bresnahan and Gengenbacher each earned six rebounds for Minnesota State-Mankato. Hoefer and Gengenbacher each recorded three assists. Gengenbacher stole the ball six times in the game. Bresnahan and Lexie Ulfers each had two blocked shots.
The Mavericks shot 42.9 percent overall from the field (33-for-77) compared to the Lady T's 32 percent (16-for-50). MSUM went 6-for-23 beyond the3-point line (26.1 percent), while DSU was 4-for-17 from the3-point line (23.5 percent).
Minnesota State-Mankato made 13 free-throws in 16 attempts (81.3 percent). The Lady T's went 6-for-12 from the free-throw line (50 percent).
The Mavericks outrebounded DSU 48-35.
Dakota State plays their fourth and final exhibition game on their 2012-13 schedule on Sunday, Dec. 30. The Lady T's visits another NSIC foe and former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) member - Mary (N.D.). Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Lysaker Gymnasium in Bismarck, N.D.
