GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State Lady T's basketball team (4-6 overall record) is scheduled to play two games this week.  The Lady T's returns home Monday night against nationally-ranked No. 6 Briar Cliff (Iowa) (11-2) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.   On Wednesday night, DSU kicks off their stretch of their final two exhibition games against members of NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Lady T's visits Minnesota State-Mankato (7-1) at the Taylor Center at 7 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.

LAST MEETING:  Briar Cliff raced to a 59-28 halftime lead over DSU in both teams' last meeting at Newman Flanagan Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Nov. 26, 2011.  The Chargers won by the score of 110-45.  The last time Lady T's defeated Briar Cliff was on Nov. 29, 2008 in Sioux City, Iowa by the score of 81-75.  DSU's last win versus the Chargers at the DSU Fieldhouse was on Nov. 11, 2006.  The Lady T's dominated Briar Cliff by the score of 101-57.  Minnesota State-Mankato defeated Dakota State in both teams' last meeting at the Taylor Center on Nov. 23, 2010.  The Lady T's dropped a 85-46 exhibition contest to the Mavericks.

BLOCKS RANKS:  Dakota State ranks second in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 5.4 blocks.  The Lady T's is sixth in the nation in total blocks with 54.  Alyson Drooger is second in the nation in blocks per game (3.7) and total blocks with 37.  She broke the DSU Lady T's basketball record earlier this month for recording the most blocks in a single game.  Drooger recorded 11 blocks versus Mount Marty on Dec. 5 at DSU Fieldhouse, previously set by Maria Gengler with 10 blocks versus Peru State on Dec. 1, 2006.

DSU OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION RANKS NATIONALLY:  According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Sunday, DSU is fourth in the nation in free-throw percentage (75.2 percent).  The Lady T's ranks eight in field goal percentage (46.2 percent).  Dakota State averages 17.9 assists per game, which is 16th best in the nation.  The Lady T's is 31st in total assists (179), 34th in 3-point field goal percentage (31.8 percent), 35th in scoring offense per game (71.3 points per game) and 42nd in 3-point field goal made per game (5.7).  Yui Onodera averages 4.2 assists per game, ranking her 26th-best in the nation.  Courtney Hulstein produces a 40.5 percentage in 3-point field goals, which she ranks 33rd in the nation.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State bounced back in the winning column on Dec. 14.  The Lady T's held Minnesota-Morris to 27.9 shooting from the field as DSU recorded a 66-49 road victory in Morris, Minn.  The Lady T's used a 19-6 scoring run in the final 7:52 of the first-half for a 27-22 halftime lead over the Cougars.  DSU outscored UMM 39-27 in the second-half to secure the victory.  Briar Cliff suffered their second conference loss on Dec. 15 at Dordt (Iowa).  The Chargers fell behind at halftime 44-33 and lost by the score of 91-74.  Minnesota State-Mankato splits two conference games last weekend on the road.  The Mavericks defeated Southwest Minnesota State 85-56 on Dec. 14.  Minnesota State-Mankato dropped a 77-64 decision to University of Sioux Falls on Dec. 15.

LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS:  Kylie Westover leads Lady T's in scoring with 12.4 points per game.  She shoots 43.4 percent from the field.  Alyson Drooger averages 10.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.  She leads the team in blocks with an average of 3.7 blocks per game.  Yui Onodera accumulates 42 assists this season, averaging 4.2 assists per game.  Julie Munson records 13 steals (1.4 steals per game).
