THIS WEEK: Dakota State (3-6 overall record) is scheduled to play one game this week. The Lady T's heads on the road Friday night, visiting Minnesota-Morris (2-5) at the Physical Education Center. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Morris, Minn.
LAST MEETING: Trailing by eight points at 21-13 with 8:29 remaining before intermission on Dec.16, 2011 at DSU Fieldhouse, the Lady T's put together a 14-4 scoring run to earn a 27-25 halftime lead. Minnesota-Morris was held to two baskets in the last 8:29 of the first-half. With the Cougars leading at 45-44 with 10:30 left in the game, the Lady T's put together an 11-0 scoring run in a span of nearly five minutes to build the game's largest lead at 55-45. Minnesota-Morris trimmed their deficit to 59-58 with 2:12 remaining. Kylie Westover sealed the game for the Lady T's as she nailed down two free-throws for a 61-58 victory. The Cougars failed to score in their final possession of the game.
BLOCKS RECORD: Alyson Drooger set a new DSU Lady T's basketball school record for most blocks in a single game on Dec. 5 versus Mount Marty (S.D.). She recorded a school record of 11 blocks in Lady T's 66-60 loss to the Lancers. The previous old mark was set by Maria Gengler with 10 blocks versus Peru State on Dec. 1, 2006.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: The Lady T's had two players with a double-double in 66-60 home loss to in-state rival Mount Marty on Dec. 5. Alyson Drooger scored 16 points and blocked 11 shots. Julie Munson came off the bench with 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
LADY T'S IN TOP 10: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website, Dakota State ranks second in the nation in blocks per game with an average of 5.7 blocks. Alyson Drooger averages 3.8 blocks per game (2nd in the nation) and is 4th in the nation with 34 total blocks. The Lady T's produce a 75.8 free-throw percentage, which is the third-best in the NAIA. Dakota State ranks fifth in total blocks (51) and seventh in field goal percentage (46.5 percent).
LAST TIME OUT: The Lady T's held Mount Marty (S.D.) to 14.8 percent shooting from the field in the first eight minutes and 49 seconds as DSU earn a 17-5 lead with 11:11 left in the first-half on Dec. 5 at DSU Fieldhouse. Dakota State earned a nine-point halftime lead at 37-28 after Yui Onodera nailed down a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer. With DSU leading at 41-30 with 18:38 remaining in the game, the Lancers used a 16-4 spurt in a span of 10 minutes to overtake the lead at 46-45. Mount Marty extended their lead to 60-53 with less than three minutes left, but the Lady T's could not get any closer than four points on two occasions (60-56 with 54 seconds left and 62-58 with 34 seconds left). The Lancers converted 16 free-throws in the second half in 23 attempts. The Lady T's dropped an exhibition game at South Dakota on Dec. 6 at USD DakotaDome. Dakota State held a brief lead early in the game, but the Coyotes outscored DSU 33-10 to break an 8-8 tie into a 41-18 halftime lead. USD defeated the Lady T's by the score of 90-35. Minnesota-Morris began their three-game home stand (all against former Dakota Athletic Conference) with a loss to No. 19 Valley City State (N.D.) on Dec. 4. The Cougars kicked off the game by earning a 7-0 lead. The Vikings regrouped and grabbed a 31-25 halftime lead. Minnesota-Morris fell short to VCSU by the score of 60-53. The Cougars hosted Mayville State (N.D.) on Dec. 7. The Comets jumped to a 10-2 lead and never trailed for the rest of the game. Mayville State won easily by the score of 80-56. Minnesota-Morris committed 27 turnovers in the game.
LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's offense with 11.9 points per game. She shoots 42.7 percent from the field this season. Katy Pillar averages 7.4 rebounds per game (67 total). Yui Onodera produces 34 assists (3.8 assists per gameâ€”44th in the nation). Julie Munson leads the team with 12 steals (1.5 steals per game). Alyson Drooger accumulates a total of 34 blocks through nine game (3.8 blocks per game). Courtney Hulstein ranks 37th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (40.5 percent).
DSU OFFENSE RANKS NATIONALLY: Dakota State have six different categories ranked in the top 50 nationally. The Lady T's rank 14th in the nation in assists per game (17.9). DSU produces a 32.3 percentage for 3-point field goal, which is 27th in the nation. DSU is 34th in scoring offense per game (71.9 points per game) and 35th in total assists with 161. The Lady T's averages 5.9 3-pointers per game, which is 37th in the nation. The Lady T's is 40th in assist/turnover ratio of 0.8.
