MADISON, S.D. - Mount Marty (S.D.) jumped to a 36-14 halftime lead over Dakota State in a junior varsity game Wednesday afternoon at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's used a second-half surge, but fell short to the Lancers 60-56.
The Lady T's were held to six points in the final 13:07 of the first-half as Mount Marty earned a 22-point halftime lead. The Lancers closed the first-half with a 26-4 run after breaking a 10-10 tie.
Mount Marty maintained control in the second-half in double digits for the first 12 minutes.
With the Lancers leading at 53-43 with less than four minutes left in the game, the Lady T's staged a furious rally with a 10-3 run to trim their deficit at 56-53 with 26 seconds remaining.
MMC made four free-throws to seal the game. Emily Fedders nailed down a 3-pointer at the buzzer for DSU.
The Lady T's outscored the Lancers 42-24 in the second-half.
Brittany Rosberg had a double-double of 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for DSU. Fedders scored 12 points off the bench. Haley Stover had eight points. Kendra Lindblad dished out seven assists and stole the ball four times. Jayda Swenson earned seven rebounds.
Kelly Amundson scored 15 points and earned seven rebounds for the Lancers. Cheyenne Lambley added nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Brittni Borman had nine points off the bench. Tess Bryrd had four assists.
Both teams struggled from the field. The Lancers shot 30.9 percent (17-for-55) compared to the Lady T's 29.7 percent (19-for-64).
MMC converted 21 free-throws in 30 attempts (70 percent) while DSU was 15-for-24 (62.5 percent).
The Lady T's outrebounded the Lancers 48-46.
The DSU Lady T's junior varsity team returns back to action on January 14. They will take on Morningside (Iowa). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
