WBK GAME NOTES (PDF)

THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team (1-3) looks to snap their losing streak this week as they play two games this week.  The Lady T's return home Tuesday night as they host their long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (3-0).  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.  On Thursday night, DSU heads to the Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse to visit Trinity Bible (N.D.) (2-0).  Game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. in Ellendale, N.D.

LAST MEETING:  Dakota Wesleyan had won the last three meetings in the series with the Lady T's.  The Tigers swept the season series last season with a 76-65 victory at DSU Fieldhouse on Nov. 15, 2011 and squeaked out for a 53-48 win at the Corn Palace on Dec. 5, 2011.  The last time Lady T's defeated Dakota Wesleyan was on Nov. 2, 2010 at the DSU Fieldhouse by the score of 78-73.  Dakota State swept both meetings with Trinity Bible in 2011-12 season.  The Lady T's defeated the Lions 80-45 in Ellendale, N.D. on Nov. 19, 2011 and 78-62 at the DSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 27, 2012.

NAIA SHOWCASE RECAP:  Dakota State fell short in both games last weekend at the NAIA Showcase in La Crosse, Wis., hosted by Viterbo University.  The Lady T's raced to a double-digit lead early in the game on Nov. 9 against the host-team Viterbo, but fell short to the Hawks by the score of 67-65.  DSU faced their second NAIA's 'Top 5' team during the week—No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan, who went to the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament for the last 10 years, on Nov. 10.  The Wildcats opened up with a 22-10 lead with 7:52 seconds remaining before halftime.  The Lady T's answered back with an 18-4 scoring run to gain a 28-26 lead.  IW earned a 33-30 halftime lead.  DSU fell short in the closing minutes as the Wildcats sealed the game with a 68-63 victory.  

PILLAR NAMED TO NAIA SHOWCASE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM:  Katy Pillar (Sioux Falls O'Gorman graduate) was chosen to the NAIA Showcase All-Tournament team, announced on Nov. 10.  Pillar, 6-foot-1-inch sophomore center, poured in a career-high 28 points and pulled down seven rebounds in Lady T's 67-65 loss to host-team Viterbo (Wis.) on Nov. 9.  Pillar had a double-double of 15 points and earned 11 rebounds in DSU's 68-63 loss to nationally-ranked Indiana Wesleyan on Nov. 10.  In the two-day NAIA Showcase event, Pillar averaged 21.5 points and nine rebounds per game.  She shot 18-for-25 from the field, producing a 72 percentage from the field.  Katy is the daughter of Joe and Diane Pillar of Sioux Falls, S.D.

LAST TIME OUT:  Dakota State faced two NAIA 'Top 5' teams last week and lost three games.  The Lady T's dropped a 99-58 home contest against the three-time defending NAIA Division II Women's Basketball champions No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 7.  DSU went 0-2 in the NAIA Showcase with both games decided by at least two points—losing to host-team Viterbo (Wis.) 67-65 on Nov. 9 and No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan 68-63 on Nov. 10.  Dakota Wesleyan, member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), defeated York (Neb.) 90-60 on Nov. 7 in their only game last week.  The Tigers opened their season with three straight victories at the Corn Palace.  Trinity Bible swept a pair of games with Association Free Lutheran Bible School on Nov. 2 (62-35) and Nov. 3 (48-44) in Plymouth, Minn.

DSU RANKS NATIONALLY:  According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Monday (Nov. 12), the Lady T's rank third in the nation in blocks per game (5.3) and sixth in total blocks with 21.  DSU is 10th in the nation in field goal percentage (47.3) and assists per game (20.5).  The Lady T's rank 13th in 3-point field goal percentage (38.2) and 15th in free-throw percentage (73.2).  

LADY T'S HOT SHOOTING:  The Lady T's had shot above 50 percent from the field in three of four games this season.  DSU shot 54.7 percent overall from the field in their season home opener victory against Oglala Lakota (S.D.) on Nov. 1.  The Lady T's shot 52.2 percent at Viterbo (Wis.) on Nov. 9 and 51.1 versus No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan on Nov. 10 (both games were held in La Crosse, Wis.).

LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS:  Katy Pillar leads the team with 14.3 points per game and shoots 54.3 percent from the field (34th in the nation).  She records 34 rebounds in four games (8.5 rebounds per game).  Courtney Hamblin dishes out 15 assists this season (3.8 assists per game).  She records six steals (1.5 steals per game).  Alyssa Drooger records 10 blocked shots, averaging 2.5 blocks per game.  She ranks seventh in the nation in total blocks and blocks per game.  Kylie Westover is 16th in the nation in total 3-point field goals made with 12 and 3-piont field goal made per game (3.0).
