THIS WEEK: Dakota State Lady T's basketball team (1-0 overall record) prepares for a busy week with three games scheduled this week. The Lady T's host the three-time defending NAIA Division II Women's Basketball champions Northwestern (Iowa) (2-0) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC)â€”No. 2 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason national pollâ€”on Wednesday night in the annual 'White-Out' game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse. DSU travels to La Crosse, Wis. this weekend for a pair of games in the NAIA Showcase, hosted by Viterbo (Wis.) University. The Lady T's play Viterbo (0-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m. and No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan (1-0) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both games will be at the R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium.
LAST MEETING: Northwestern (Iowa) won the last meeting with the Lady T's on Nov. 13, 2010 in Orange City, Iowa. DSU's last win versus the Red Raiders was on Oct. 31, 2008 where the Lady T's won by the score of 85-81 as part of the Tyson Center Classic on Oct. 31, 2008 in Sioux City, Iowa. DSU will play in the first-ever meeting with Viterbo and Indiana Wesleyan this weekend.
ANNUAL 'WHITE-OUT' GAME VERSUS NORTHWESTERN (IOWA): The annual 'White-Out' game, hosted by DSU's Physical Education and Coaching Club, will be held on Wednesday night versus Northwestern (Iowa). Wear your 'white' t-shirt to the game to support the annual 'White-Out' game. Northwestern is ranked No. 2 in the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason national poll. The Red Raiders had won its third straight and fifth overall NAIA Division II National championship last season. NWIA returns six letter winners and six of the top eight scorers from the 2011-12 team that completed an overall record of 28-7. The last time Lady T's defeated the Red Raiders at the DSU Fieldhouse was on Nov. 8, 2003. DSU won by the score of 60-53.
NAIA SHOWCASE: The Lady T's travel to the R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium this weekend in La Crosse, Wis. to compete in the two-day NAIA Showcase event. DSU will play the host-team Viterbo (Wis.) on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Hawks are a member of the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC). On Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., the Lady T's play Indiana Wesleyan, No. 4 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason national poll. The Wildcats had made 10 straight appearances in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament. Indiana Wesleyan advanced to the NAIA's 'Elite Eight' in the last two years and captured the national champions in 2007 with a perfect overall record of 38-0. LADY T'S EXTEND WINNING STREAK IN SEASON OPENER GAME: Dakota State recorded their eighth straight season opener game victory on Nov. 1. Twelve different Lady T's scored in the 112-39 home season victory over Oglala Lakota (S.D.) at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Lady T's shot a sizzling 68.4 percent from the field (26-for-38) to earn a 64-24 halftime lead. Kylie Westover finished the game with 31 points on her 12-for-17 from the field and 7-for-10 from the 3-point line (tied for third most 3-pointers in a single game in Lady T's record book). Alyson Drooger and Courtney Hulstein each added 14 points. Cassie Jacobsen, Courtney Hamblin, Jayda Swenson and Katy Pillar each had eight points.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State opened their 2012-13 campaign with a 112-39 rout over Oglala Lakota (S.D.) on Nov. 1. Northwestern swept a pair of home games against North Dakota teams. The Red Raiders defeated Valley City State (receiving votes in the NAIA preseason poll) 67-64 on Nov. 2 and No. 11 Jamestown 84-51 on Nov. 3. Viterbo dropped a pair of games against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Hawks dropped a 91-40 road decision to No. 5 Morningside (Iowa) on Nov. 2 and No. 8 Briar Cliff (Iowa) 104-65 on Nov. 3. Indiana Wesleyan kicked off their season with a 62-44 road victory over Indiana University-South Bend.
LADY T'S QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Lady T's with 31.0 points per game, which ranks first in the nation. She shoots 70.9 percent from the field and ranks seventh in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (7.0). Alyson Drooger averages eight rebounds per game and records five blocked shots. She ranks first in the nation in field goal percentage (100.0 percent) and second in blocked shots per game (5.0). Courtney Hulstein accumulates six assists, which ranks ninth in the nation for assists per game (6.0). Julie Munson records four steals for the Lady T's and ranks 24th in the nation in steals per game (4.0).
