THIS WEEK:  The Dakota State Lady T's basketball team (0-0 overall record) kicks off their 2012-13 season Thursday evening as they host Oglala Lakota (S.D.) (0-0).  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.  DSU will be hosting the post-Halloween costume party with prizes for children as well as for college students.

2011 IN REVIEW:  Dakota State completed their 2011-12 season with an overall record of 7-22 and 1-5 in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference record.  The Lady T's dropped a 61-45 decision to Valley City State (N.D.) in the A.I.I. Division II Women's Basketball Conference Tournament held in Madison, S.D.  Kylie Westover was named to the A.I.I. All-Conference honorable mention as she averaged 11.6 points per game last season.  She had accumulated 111 3-pointers in her career at DSU, which ranks seventh in the Lady T's basketball record book for most career 3-pointers.  Yui Onodera was named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete for her academic accomplishments in the classroom.  Courtney Hamblin was selected to the CoSIDA Academic Scholar Athlete award for her academic success in school. 

DITTMAN RETURNS TO DSU:  Jeff Dittman returns back to Dakota State University after a four-year coaching stint at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.  He begins his sixteenth year as head coach of the Lady T's with new set of challenges facing his squad.  Dittman is no stranger to Dakota State as he coached the Lady T's basketball team for 15 years.  He took DSU to six national tournament appearances, including  two 'Elite Eight' appearances in 2000 and 2006.  His teams also advanced to the 'Sweet Sixteen' round in 2001 and 2008.  He produced an overall record of 245-201 (.549 winning percentage) - the most wins by a women's basketball head coach at DSU - and earned five conference regular-season titles (two consecutive years in 2000 and 2001 and three straight seasons from 2006 to 2008).  Dittman's Lady T squad also won three conference tournament championships in 2000, 2004 and 2007.  In Dittman's tenure at Dakota State, the Lady T's were ranked in the NAIA 'Top Twenty' numerous times - ranking as high as No. 5 during the 2007-08 season.  He was named the conference Coach of the Year three times (1998, 2001 and 2007) and the South Dakota Basketball Coaches' Association Coach of the Year two times (2000 and 2006).  Dakota State produced two All-Americans, four Honorable Mention All-American and nineteen All-Conference players during Dittman's first coaching tenure with the Lady T's.  Besides their success on the court, the DSU Lady T's produced eighteen NAIA Academic All-Americans.

2012-13 ROSTER BREAKDOWN:  The Lady T's have 20 players on its roster for 2012-13 season.  There are three seniors (Yui Onodera, Brittany Rosberg and Toni Zirbel), five juniors (Alyson Drooger, Courtney Hamblin, Cassie Jacobsen, Julie Munson and Kylie Westover), six sophomores (Sharee Galbraith, Annalesha Kalis, Rachel Novak, Katy Pillar, Jaynie Spier and Jayda Swenson) and six freshmen (Bailey Bruns, Emily Fedders, Courtney Hulstein, Kendra Lindblad, Brooke Relf and Haley Stover) on the team.  The head coach for the Lady T's is Jeff Dittman, assisted by Chris Stoebner.  The Lady T's also have a junior varsity team this season.

LADY T'S LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK IN SEASON OPENER:  Dakota State had won seven straight season opening games.  The Lady T's extended that winning streak with a 83-36 rout over Grace (Neb.).  The winning streak in season opener began in 2005 when the Lady T's knocked off their in-state rival University of Sioux Falls by the score of  78-46 on Nov. 1, 2005.

2012 SCHEDULE:  Dakota State continues their tradition of playing one of the toughest schedules in the NAIA.  The Lady T's will face five teams that qualified for the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament last season.  In addition, DSU will have four NCAA Division II and Division I teams on the

UP NEXT: The Lady T's remain at home next Wednesday, Nov. 10 at DSU Fieldhouse.  DSU will host the three-time defending NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Champions No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.  The Lady T's travel to La Crosse, Wis. to play in the Viterbo Tournament next weekend.  Dakota State plays host-team Viterbo at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 and No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
