SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Dordt (Iowa), member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, held Dakota State to 29.2 percent shooting (7-for-24) in the second-half as the Lady Defenders escaped a 68-52 victory over Trojans Wednesday night at DeWitt Gymnasium.

Dakota State suffered their fourth straight loss and dropped their overall record to 5-11.  Dordt improved their record to 7-11.

Both teams traded leads in the first 10 minutes of the game.  At 13-13 with ten minutes and eight seconds left in the second-half, Dordt used a 7-0 run in a three minutes stretch to grab 20-17 lead (7:07 remaining before intermission).

The Lady Defenders held on to a 32-26 halftime lead.

Dordt opened the second-half with a 21-8 run to gain the largest lead of the game at 53-34 with 10:31 left in the game.

The Trojans went on a 16-3 spurt to trim their deficit to 56-50 with 4:23 remaining.

DC sealed the game with a 12-2 run.

Courtney Hamblin and Katy Pillar each had 12 points for DSU.  Kylie Westover and Julie Munson each added eight points.  Pillar and Cassie Jacobsen each earned a game-high eight rebounds.  Jayda Swenson had seven rebounds.

Kayla Gesink and Kara Van Dyke each had 14 points for the Lady Defenders.  Kayla Broekhuis had 10 rebounds.  Jaimie Kok dished out seven assists off the bench and stole the ball four times.  Gesink had seven rebounds.  Gesink and Brianna Spronk each had four steals.

Dordt shot 41.9 percent overall from the field (26-for-62), compared to the Trojans' 34 percent (18-for-53).

Both teams had five 3-pointers and 11 free-throws in the game.

The Lady Defenders recorded a slim rebounding edge over DSU, 37-35.

The Trojans committed 22 turnovers in the game, while DC had 14 turnovers.

Dakota State returns home on Saturday.  The Trojans look to bounce back in the winning column as they host Jamestown, No. 13 in the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball national poll, for the second meeting this season (JC won the first meeting 66-43 on Jan. 3 in Jamestown, N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
