THIS WEEK: Dakota State (3-7 overall record) returns home for their final two home games of December, starting on Friday night. The Trojans entertain University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars (3-4), a member of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III, at DSU Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
LAST MEETING: Minnesota-Morris won the last meeting from Dakota State on Nov. 18, 2010 in Morris, Minn. The Cougars jumped to a 31-26 halftime lead and held on to defeat DSU 71-63. Minnesota-Morris shot 46.8 percent (22-for-47) from the field compared to the Trojans' 32.4 percent (24-for-74). The Cougars went to the free throw line 31 times and converted 23 free-throws. The Trojans were 7-for-9 at the free-throw line.
LAST TIME OUT: Dakota State went 0-2 for the week last week. The Trojans fell short in closing minutes to their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan at Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. on Dec. 5. DSU jumped to a 28-21 halftime lead, but the Tigers outscored the Trojans 32-20 in the second-half for a 53-48 win. Dakota State suffered a 84-51 decision to nationally-ranked Saint Mary (Neb.) on Dec. 9 in Omaha, Neb. Minnesota-Morris split a pair of games against former Dakota Athletic Conference members. The Cougars lost on the road to Valley City State 71-63 on Dec. 7. UMM bounced back in the winning column on Dec. 9 as they
defeated Mayville State 70-66.
TROJANS RANK NATIONALLY IN REBOUNDS: According to the NAIA-DakStats statistical website as of Wednesday, Dec. 14, Dakota State ranks in five different rebound categories. The Trojans are 29th in the nation in total rebound margin (+3.9), 38th in defensive rebounds per game (27.5) and total rebound defense (37.4), 39th in total rebounds per game (41.3) and 43rd in offensive rebounds per game (13.8).
DSU QUICK LEADERS: Kylie Westover leads the Trojans in scoring with an average of 11.3 points per game. Jayda Swenson records 62 rebounds in 10 games (6.2 average).
Courtney Hamblin leads the team in three different categories. She accumulates 28 assists (2.8 average), 12 steals (1.2 average) and two blocked shots this season for DSU.
TROJANS START 2012 ON ROAD: Dakota State will start the year 2012 with three straight games on the road. The Trojans travel to Jamestown, N.D. on Jan. 3 to take on their former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Jamestown. On Jan. 4, the Trojans will go from Jamestown to Fargo, N.D. to play an exhibition game with North Dakota State. Dakota State will head to Fremont, Neb. to take on Midland on Jan. 7 before returning back home to DSU Fieldhouse on Jan. 8 versus Valley City State.
DSU AT HOME: The Trojans are currently 2-2 at DSU Fieldhosue. The Trojans recorded a season-opening 83-36 win over Grace (Neb.) on Nov. 1. DSU got their second home win on Dec. 3 as they defeated their former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) rival Mayville State. The Trojans defeated the Comets 67-60 in an overtime thriller.
