MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State's baseball team hosted Jamestown College in a battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) rivals in a beautiful weather Saturday afternoon at Flynn Field.  The Trojans extended their winning streak to five games with a sweep over the Jimmies by the scores of 6-1 in the first game and a furious 12-5 comeback victory in the second game.

Dakota State remained undefeated in their current 12-game home stand with a 4-0 record.  The Trojans raised their overall record to 15-14 and 2-0 in Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference games.  Jamestown, which qualified for the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round for the last three seasons, dropped their record to 11-9-1 and 0-2 in A.I.I.

Game 1 - Dakota State 6, Jamestown (N.D.) 1

Dakota State jumped to a fast start to open the first game of the doubleheader.  Ryan Steffensen was hit-by-pitch and advanced to second base by Anthony Fagan's wild pitch.  Ryan Bouricer hit an RBI double with two outs and scored Steffensen to give DSU a 1-0 lead.  The Trojans added two runs caused by JC's defensive error to make it 3-0.  Kyle Holland hit an RBI single to score Max Garza as the Trojans earned a 4-0 early lead.

Rudy Strnad hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning as Jamestown ended their scoring drought.  The Jimmies trimmed their deficit to 4-1.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth frame, Steffensen hit a single and Anyelo Roman added a double.  Steffensen scored by Fagan's second wild pitch of the game to extend DSU's lead to 5-1.

Chaz Palmer added an RBI single to score Garza in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Trojans a 6-1 lead.

DSU sealed the victory in the final inning as the Jimmies went three-and-out.

Anyelo Roman and Bouricer each had a double for the Trojans.  Holland and Palmer each had a single, an RBI and swiped one base.  Steffensen added a single and two runs scored.  Garza had two runs scored.

Strnad had a home run and an RBI for the Jimmies.  Nico Moreno added two singles.  Joe Perez had a single.

JC committed three errors in the game compared to the Trojans' one error.

Seth Doxey (3-2) tossed a complete game win for the Trojans.  He limited the Jimmies to four hits and one run.  Doxey recorded three strikeouts.

Fagan (2-2) notched the loss for JC.  He pitched six innings and gave up six runs (three unearned) on five hits.  Fagan struck out seven DSU's batters.

Game 2 - Dakota State 12, Jamestown (N.D.) 5

The Jimmies produced four runs in the opening inning to earn an early lead.  Spencer Flaten opened with a single.  Moreno hit a one-out RBI double to score Flaten for the first run of the game.  Mitch Stevens reached on base by hit-by-pitch.  Jonathan Minchella hit a 3-run home run to extend Jimmies' lead to 4-0.

Dakota State answered back in the bottom of the first inning with three runs scored.  Rays Roman was hit-by-pitch to open the inning.  He swiped to second base with one out.  Bouricer hit an RBI single to score Rays Roman as DSU scored its first run of the game.  Jason Hershfield added a single and advanced Bourcier to second base.  Garza hit a 2-RBI double to score Hershfield and Bouricer as DSU trimmed JC's lead to 4-3.

Minchella hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to extend Jimmies' lead to 5-3.

The Trojans mounted a furious rally with seven runs scored in the bottom fifth frame to overtake the lead from Jamestown.  With bases loaded and one out, Anyelo Roman hit a grand slam (his seventh home run of the season) as the Trojans gained a 7-5 lead.  Bouricer added a double.  Kyle Braun (pinch runner for Bourcier) scored by Jimmies' defensive error as DSU extend their lead to 8-5.  Garza hit an RBI double to score Hershfield and Holland hit an RBI single to score Connor Hargrove (courtesy runner for Garza) to give DSU a 10-5 lead.

DSU added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Hershfield hit a two-out double.  Garza and Holland each recorded an RBI single to extend Trojans' lead to 12-5.

The Trojans secured the victory in the final inning as the Jimmies left one runner on base.

Garza was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and recorded four RBIs for the Trojans.  Anyelo Roman added a grand slam and four RBIs.  Hershfield and Bourcier each had a double and a single.  Hershfield scored three times.  Holland had two singles and an RBI.  Corey Pasichnyk added a single and a run scored.

Minchella was 3-for-4 with a home run, two singles and four RBIs for the Jimmies.  Moreno added a double, two runs scored and an RBI.  Flaten had a single and a run scored.

DSU outhit JC 12-5 in the game.  The Jimmies recorded five errors, while the Trojans had two errors.

Anyelo Roman (3-2) pitched a complete game win for Dakota State.  He allowed five runs on five hits.  He struck out four JC's batters.

Paul Roers (1-1) took the loss for Jamestown.  He worked for 4 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs (three unearned) on seven hits.  Blake Stewart tossed 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits.  Ben Mortenson worked the sixth inning and gave up two runs (one unearned) on three hits.

Dakota State and Jamestown will conclude their four-game series on Sunday at Flynn Field.  First game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
