Women's Basketball - Mon, Nov. 14, 2011

MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State women's head basketball coach Joe Reints announced on Nov. 10 that Courtney Hulstein from Fulda, Minn., has signed a letter-of-intent to continue her academic and athletic career at DSU beginning in 2012-13.

Hulstein will graduate from Fulda High School in Minnesota this spring.  The 5-foot-7 guard averages 18.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as a junior and was named All-State Coaches' Association and All-Conference.  Her sophomore campaign included a spot on the All-State Honorable Mention Coaches' Association and All-Conference.  Hulstein is a two-time All-Area team.

"We are extremely excited that a player of Courtney's caliber has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Dakota State University," said Reints.  "Courtney is a tremendous 3-pointer shooter with almost unlimited range.  The things I like about her most though are her ability to drive to the basket and absorb contact and finish or distribute the ball to open players.  She comes from one of the best girls' basketball programs in the state of Minnesota.  Coach Gregg Slaathaug has done a great job of preparing her to play at the next level by not only teaching her to play the game, but also how to be a great leader."

Hulstein currently holds a school record in most 3-pointers made with 96 in her junior year.  She recorded 81 3-pointers in her sophomore year, which are the second most 3-pointers in school record.  Hulstein accumulates 254 3-pointers through three years at Fulda, the most in school history.

Courtney is the daughter of Diane Hulstein and the late Brian Hulstein.

Located in Madison, S.D., Dakota State University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.).
