YANKTON, S.D. - Dakota State University head women's basketball coach Joe Reints had signed the third recruit for 2012-13 season Monday afternoon. Senior Emily Fedders of Yankton High School will be joining the team next season.
Fedders is a team captain in basketball for Coach Doug Pesicka. She is also a team captain for the Yankton Lady Gazelles volleyball team. As a junior, she averaged 12.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. For her efforts, she was named to the second team Class 'AA' All-State basketball team. Fedders earned ESD All-Conference and was selected the most valuable basketball player for her high school team. She is on the cover of this year's Hansen-Anderson basketball preview book. This past summer, she was selected to the Minnesota Showcase All-Tournament team, while playing for the South Dakota Stars AAU team under the direction of Coach Tom 'Tiny' Eckmann.
Besides her athletic accomplishments, Fedders is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named to the Roll of Excellence for three years in high school. She attended Girls State in her junior year.
"We are thrilled that Emily has chosen to continue her education at Dakota State University," said Reints. "Emily has impressed us in every phase of the recruiting process. She is a great player and a great person. She will bring a hard-nosed work ethic, good leadership skills and a winning attitude to our team. She is an excellent student in the classroom and will be a great addition to our program."
