Women's Basketball - Mon, Sep. 12, 2011

MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State head women's basketball coach Joe Reints announced today that Haley Stover and Erika Bamsey signed to play for the Trojans for the 2012-13 season.

A senior from Redfield High School, Stover averaged 12.6 points, 1.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game in her junior year.  She was chosen as the most valuable player in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.  Stover was selected to All-Conference team twice.  She was named to the 'Player of the Game' from Mobridge radio station.

Stover was a member of the 'Northern Lites' team that advanced to the 'Elite Eight' at the national tournament in Orlando, Fla. in 2011.  She was selected to be on the cover page for the Hansen and Anderson basketball preview book.  Besides her athletic accomplishments, Stover is a member of the National Honor Society and is listed on the honor roll for three years.

"Haley is a very athletic point guard," said Reints.  "Being the daughter of two coaches, she knows the game extremely well and is a great student of the game.  I thought Haley improved greatly this summer while playing with the Northern Lites AAU team for Coach Ryan Giles.  I look for her to have a great year playing for Redfield/Doland under coach Tommy Gregg.  We are extremely excited about getting a player of Haley's quality signed this early in the recruiting process."

Haley is the daughter of Lonni and Brenda Stover.

Bamsey averages 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists per game for Howard High School.  She was chosen to Big East All-Conference team and team's offensive most valuable player.  She will be a senior at Howard this year.

"Erika is a strong and skilled post player and we are extremely excited that she has decided to stay close to home and continue her education at Dakota State," said Reints.  "She showed a lot of versatility while playing with her back to the basket and showing off her range to the 3-point line while playing for the South Dakota's Thunder AAU and coach Kenny Vermillion.  She really loves the games and her personality is going to be a great fit with the rest of our team.  She will add much needed depth to the post position for our team."

Erika is the daughter of Jerry and Kim Bamsey.
