MADISON, S.D. - The Dakota State University women's basketball played their final game of their Dakota Athletic Conference regular season on Saturday. The Trojans hosted Jamestown College at the DSU Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The Jimmies defeated DSU 74-60.
Dakota State ended their regular season with an overall record of 6-20 and 2-12 in the DAC conference. Jamestown concluded their season with an overall record of 19-7 and 9-5 in the conference.
Jamestown started the game out strong with an 11-2 run in the first three minutes of the game. The Jimmies extended their lead to 20-10 with 12:02 left before halftime.
DSU stormed back with a 15-3 run in a four-minute span to take a 25-23 lead. Jamestown and Dakota State tied the game four times in the next four minutes. With the game tied at 32-32, the Jimmies closed the first-half with a 7-2 run to grab a 39-34 halftime lead.
JC led 46-42 with 12:34 remaining in the game. The Jimmies raced to a 53-42 lead with less than 10 minutes left. The Trojans got no closer than seven points (53-46 with 7:59 left in regulation) as the Jimmies secured the victory with a 21-14 closing run.
Julie Munson scored 13 points off the bench for DSU. She recorded three 3-pointers and went 4-for-6 at the free-throw line. Courtney Hamblin and Aneshia Starks each added nine points. Katie Bourk and Ashley Hansen scored eight points each. LaTasha Dowell had seven rebounds and three steals. Starks dished out four assists.
Five players scored in double digits for Jamestown. Hannah Steele had 20 points in the game. She was 7-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Steele dished out three assists and recorded three steals. Amber Ramlo added 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Carley Jensen scored 11 points off the bench, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Casey Geffre and Kayla Roemmich had 10 points each.
The Jimmies went to the free-throw line 32 times, converting 24 free-throws (75 percent). Dakota State was 9-for-16 at the free-throw line (56.3 percent).
The Trojans committed 27 turnovers compared to Jamestown 17. Jamestown outscored the Trojans 26-13 in points off turnovers.
DSU won the rebounding battle 36-33.
It was the final playing time in uniform for seniors Bourk and Dowell at the DSU Fieldhouse.
Dakota State will begin their DAC Women's Basketball Postseason Tournament on Wednesday. The Trojans will take on the DAC's No. 1 seed Black Hills State in the quarterfinals. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. (CT)/5:30 p.m. (MT) at the Donald E. Young Gymnasium in Spearfish, S.D.
