HILLSBORO, Kan. - Dakota State baseball team continued their 14-game schedule trip in Missouri and Kansas Friday afternoon. The Trojans were not able to end the Tabor College's winning streak as the Blue Jays swept the Trojans by the scores of 8-4 and 13-6.
Dakota State dropped their third straight game and fell to 8-11 overall record. Tabor, receiving votes in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' preseason poll, won their ninth straight game to raise their record to 13-3.
Game 1 - Tabor (Kan.) 8, Dakota State 4 - BOX SCORE
The Blue Jays jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings. Tabor scored three times in the opening inning and added two runs in the bottom second frame.
Ryan Bourcier hit a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning as the Trojans trimmed their deficit to 5-3.
TC answered back with three runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3.
Dakota State added a run in the top of the sixth inning by Seth Doxey's RBI ground out to score Anyelo Roman. The Trojans cut Tabor's lead to 8-4.
DSU was unable to answer back in the final inning as they left one runner on base.
Bourcier had a home run and three RBIs for the Trojans. Rays Roman, Ryan Steffensen, Anyelo Roman, Jason Hershfield, Doxey, Kyle Hollman and Chaz Palmer each added a single.
Koby Temple had a home run and a single with three RBIs for the Blue Jays. Matt Cardona added a home run. Colby Tessendorf and Art Corona each added a double.
Anyelo Roman (2-1) recorded the loss for DSU. He tossed six innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits.
David Ormiston (2-1) notched the victory for Tabor. He worked for six innings and gave up four runs (three unearned) on seven hits. Nate Percy worked the final inning and limited DSU to one hit.
Game 2 - Tabor (Kan.) 13, Dakota State 6 - BOX SCORE
Corona and Adam McCormick each hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Tabor a 2-0 early lead.
Jason Hershfield hit a solo home run in the top second frame to trim their deficit to 2-1.
In the bottom second inning, Andrew Perez recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 3-1.
Tabor added a run in the bottom third inning for a 4-1 lead over the Trojans.
Doxey hit a 3-RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Palmer added a 2-run home run to gain a 6-4 lead over the Blue Jays.
TC exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain their lead at 13-6.
The Trojans were unable to mount a rally in the final three innings of the game.
Doxey was 2-for-3 with two singles and three RBIs for DSU. Palmer added a home run and two RBIs. Hershfield had a home run and two runs scored. Max Garza had a single.
Corona recorded two home runs and five RBIs for the Blue Jays. McCormick added two hits and two RBIs. Cody Wheeler had a double, two singles and three RBIs. Tyler Kozolowski had two hits and two RBIs.
Tabor left 11 runners on base. The Trojans had four runners left on base.
The Blue Jays outhit DSU 12-6 in the game.
Kyle Bradbury started the game for Dakota State. He worked the first 2 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Seth Rockafellow (0-3) recorded the loss as he tossed 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up four runs on one hit. Beau Behrend allowed five runs on three hits. Garza pitched 1 2/3 innings and limited the Blue Jays to one hit. Drew Sweeter worked the final inning and allowed one hit.
Matt Lambert started on the mound for the Blue Jays. He pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (three unearned) on four hits. Darius Iacono recorded his first victory of the season as he tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings and gave up one hit. Brad White pitched the seventh inning and held the Trojans to one hit.
Dakota State attempts to bounce back in the winning column this weekend. The Trojans play in a four-game series with Bethany (Kan.). The doubleheader starts on Saturday at 12 noon in Lindsborg, Kan.
