SEWARD, Neb. - Dakota State captured six different events titles Friday afternoon in the Concordia (Neb.) Twilight outdoor track and field meet at the Bulldog Stadium. It was the final regular-season outdoor track and field meet for their last chance to qualify for NAIA nationals.
The Trojan men's 4 x 100-meter relay team (D'Artist Williams, Stacey Berg, Mark Moeller and Seth Boomsma) broke a new DSU school record for the second straight week. They recorded a new record time of 41.26 seconds to claim the title, breaking their previous old record time of 41.34 seconds set at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 3.
Williams clocked a time of 10.74 seconds as he cruised to a first-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash prelims. He produced an exact time in order to qualify for NAIA nationals, which the national qualifying times required to be between 10.65 and 10.74 seconds.
In the men's 200-meter dash, Boomsma captured the title with a national qualifying time of 21.62 seconds. Berg was 5th in 22.28 seconds.
Andy Coy broke a new DSU school record time in the men's 800-meter run. He improved his national qualifying time of 1:50.54 to earn a second-place finish in the event. Coy broke his previous DSU record time of 1:52.02 set in 2010. Other DSU results in the men's 800-meter run included Steve Selchert with a 10th-place finish (1:57.05), Moeller 18th-place (2:01.49), Michael Hoffman 19th-place (2:02.49), Gabe Samuelson 25th-place (2:06.87) and Jared Truman 30th-place (2:19.89).
Nic Penning won the men's 10,000-meters race with a time of 33:25.33.
DSU assistant track and field coach Anthony Drealan earned first-place in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 15:13.95. Penning was second with a time of 15:37.67.
Matt Fideler, DSU track and field student assistant coach, clocked a time of 9:15.98 to win the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
Summer Bronson clocked a time of 1:07.10 for a third-place finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles. She was 11th in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 16.49 seconds.
In the women's 800-meter dash, Stephanie Warnke recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:19.84. Kayla Sveen was seventh in 2:23.89. Victoria Sopko placed eighth with a time of 2:24.80.
Anastasia Asimakopoulos was seventh in the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 5:52.28.
Sara Friesen finished eighth in both women's 100-meter dash prelims and finals. She clocked a time of 14.57 seconds in the prelims and improved her time in the finals - 14.53 seconds.
Truman ran a time of 53.11 seconds to finish ninth in the men's 400-meter dash.
Zach Ely recorded a time of 16.03 seconds in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He finished 10th in the prelims.
Taylor Hauge was 12th in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:21.65. Jared Sutton placed 15th in 4:22.93.
Dakota State will be taking six runners - Berg, Boomsma, Coy, Moeller, Penning and Williams - to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on May 23-25. The national meet takes place in Marion, Ind.
