SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Dakota State's Seth Boomsma claimed the men's 100-meter dash title Saturday in the 88th Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays at the cold and rainy weather Howard Wood Field. Seven-time NAIA All-American Andy Coy qualified for the men's 1500-meter run, earning a second-place finish in the race.
Boomsma, a native of Colton, S.D., blazed in the men's 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 10.96 seconds. D'Artist Williams from Madison, S.D. clocked a time of 10.99 seconds for a second-place finish in the prelims.
Boomsma won the men's 100-meter dash title with a time of 10.83 seconds.
Coy (Hill City, S.D. native) produced a national qualifying time in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of three minutes and 52.41 seconds to earn a runner-up honor. NCAA Division I runner Alex Muntefering from Colorado State won the title with a time of 3:50.35. Coy will be making his fourth straight NAIA Outdoor Track and Field national appearance in his stellar collegiate track career at Dakota State. Coy's time (3:52.41) is the third fastest time in the DSU school record book.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles prelims, Chad Pelkofer recorded a time of 16.40 seconds for a fifth-place finish. David Sotir was seventh in 16.58 seconds. Zach Ely clocked a time of 16.62 seconds to finish eighth. All three runners advanced to the finals.
Pelkofer ran a time of 16.07 seconds in the men's 100-meter hurdles finals to claim a fifth-place finish. Ely was sixth with a time of 16.25 seconds. Sotir finished eighth in 16.71 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Summer Bronson clocked a time of 1:07.27 to earn a fifth-place finish in the women's race. Pelkofer was fifth on the men's side with a time of 1:02.00.
Ashley Currey was tied for 10th in the women's discus. She threw a measurement of 110 feet and 9 inches. Shayna Dwyer recorded a measurement of 97 feet and 3 inches for a 14th-place finish.
Stephanie Warnke ran to a 13th-place finish in the women's 1500-meter run. She clocked a time of 5:10.43. Brooke Fritz was 18th in 5:41.18. Amber Wiebenga placed 20th in 6:16.25.
Dakota State competes in the final regular-season meet on next Saturday. The Trojans travel to Seward, Neb. to participate in the Concordia (Neb.) Twilight meet.
