YANKTON, S.D. - The majority of the Dakota State University outdoor track and field teams competed in the Mount Marty Twilight meet Friday late afternoon at Williams Field. Three DSU men's throwers improved their personal bests in hammer throw.
Ryan Gimbel produced a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw with a new DSU school record measurement of 142 feet and 10 inches. He broke his previous old school record of 142 feet in 2012 and improved his season-best measurement this season (previously threw a measurement of 138 feet and 1 inch this season).
Two other DSU men's hammer throw also improved their personal best this season. Trevor Van Tilburg recorded a measurement of 119 feet and 10 inches (fourth best throw in DSU record book) for a 15th-place finish (previous mark this season was 117 feet and 7 inches). Trevor Rossknecht threw a measurement of 118 feet and 7 inches for a 16th-place finish, improving his previous season-best at 116 feet and 2 inches.
Gimbel was fifth in the men's shot put with a measurement of 45 feet and 6.25 inches. Van Tilburg threw a discus measurement of 131 feet and 10 inches for an eighth-place finish. Rossknecht was ninth (126 feet and 5 feet) and Gimbel placed 11th (121 feet and 1 inch)
Two DSU hurdlers placed third in the meet. Summer Bronson clocked a time of one minute and 7.40 seconds in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Justin Templeton recorded a time of 15.58 seconds in 110-meter hurdles.
Zach Ely and David Sotir placed in the men's 110-meter hurdles 'Top 6' for the Trojans. Ely produced a time of 16.06 seconds for a fifth-place finish. Sotir was sixth in 16.10 seconds.
Templeton was fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.65 seconds. Chad Pelkofer finished sixth in 59.81 seconds. Sotir placed ninth with a time of 1:02.75.
Brooke Fritz ran in the women's 800-meter race and recorded a time of 2:32.81 for a seventh-place finish. On the men's side, Gabe Samuelson was 18th (2:08.39), while Jared Truman finished 22nd (2:10.65).
Taylor Hauge ran a time of 17 minutes and 23.06 seconds to finish seventh in the men's 5000-meter run. Anastasia Asimakopoulos was sixth on the women's 5000-meter run in 22:12.24. Amber Wiebenga placed seventh in 23:56.07.
Ashley Currey placed eighth in the women's shot put with a measurement of 36 feet and 5 inches. Shayna Dwyer was 10th with a measurement of 33 feet and 8.75 inches.
Currey threw a measurement of 106 feet and 9 inches for a 13th-place finish in the women's discus. Dwyer recorded a 17th-place finish with a measurement of 93 feet and 5 inches.
In the women's hammer throw, Currey was 16th with a measurement of 110 feet and 2 inches. Dwyer was 18th (99 feet and 6 inches).
Jared Sutton clocked a time of 4:27.56 to finish 14th in the men's 1500-meter run.
The DSU men's 4 x 400-meter relay team (Pelkofer, Truman, Samuelson and Sutton) finished eighth with a time of 3:38.78.
Dakota State heads to Sioux Falls next weekend to compete in the annual Howard Woods Relay. The meet will be held at the Howard Wood Field.
