MADISON, S.D. - The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) has selected Dakota State's Seth Boomsma as its Male Athlete of the Week honor, announced Monday morning.
Boomsma, a sophomore from Crooks, S.D., blazed to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and ran a leg on the second-place 4 x 100-meter relay team at the Sioux City Relays. He claimed the 100-meter dash title with a time of 10.77 seconds. This is the second straight week that he had won an individual title in the 100-meter dash (won in the Vance Butler Invitational on April 6 - 10.59 seconds). He was also part of the 4 x 100-meter relay that came up just .04 seconds short of gold after clocking a 42.07 time in the event (NCAA Division I South Dakota won the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 42.03 seconds).
Boomsma already qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in both 100-meter dash (6th fastest runner in the NAIA) and 4 x 100-meter relay (with D'Artist Williams, Stacey Berg and Mark Moeller - 13th fastest in the nation).
Seth is the son of Terry and Stacey Boomsma. He is a graduate of Tri-Valley High School. He is majoring in Exercise Science at Dakota State University.
