FREMONT, Neb. - Nic Penning of Dakota State University recorded a national qualifying time in the Midland Half-Marathon Meet on Saturday. The 13.1 mile meet, hosted by Midland University, gave individuals an opportunity to compete for a bid in marathon for NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in late May.
Penning punched his ticket for nationals as he recorded a time of one hour, 13 minutes and 56 seconds. He placed fifth. A total of 19 runners placed in the half-marathon event.
The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships meet will be held in Marion, Ind. on May 24-26.
Nic is the son of Brett and ReNette Penning of Hulett, Wyo. He is a junior Computer Network Security major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State track and field teams will officially start their outdoor season on March 31. The Trojans host its home meet, DSU Invitational, at the Trojan Field in Madison, S.D.
