WAYNE, Neb. - The Dakota State University women's and men's indoor track and field teams competed in the Wildcat Open Saturday at WSC Recreation Center. The meet was hosted by NCAA Division II Wayne State University.
Stephanie Uher claimed the women's 600-meter run title. In her first ever 600-meter run appearance in her career, she ran a time of one minute and 44.61 seconds. Uher placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.46 seconds.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Claire Beck earned a runner-up honor with a time of 1:04.79. Shannon Spurgin was sixth in 1:09.04.
Stacey Berg competed in three different men's events at the meet. He recorded a third-place finish in the high jump with a measurement of five feet and ten inches. Berg was fifth in the 60-meter dash final with a time of 7.28 seconds (6th in the prelims in 7.28 seconds and qualified for the finals). He finished 12th in the long jump with a measurement of 20 feet and 4.25 inches.
In the men's pole vault, Andrew Gross recorded a third-place finish with a measurement of 12 feet and two inches.
Summer Bronson ran a time of 10.03 seconds in the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims and qualified for the finals. She finished eighth in the finals in 10.65 seconds. Bronson finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in 29.54 seconds.
John Bintliff placed eighth in the men's one-mile run with a time of 4:57.48.
Brittany Pearson recorded a weight throw measurement of 40 feet and five inches for an eighth-place finish.
Other DSU men's results at the Wildcat Open are: DeVonte Garcia (24th in 60-meter dash - 7.61 seconds); Gabe Samuelson (18th in 200-meter dash - 25.53 seconds and 12th in 400-meter dash - 56.50 seconds); Joshua Scott (26th in 200-meter dash - 27.59 seconds); Jacob Cassutt (12th in one-mile run - 5:12.25); Nate Schulz (17th in long jump - 18 feet and 11.75 inches); Ryan Gimbel (15th in shot put - 38 feet and 10.25 inches) and Trevor Rossknecht (17th in shot put - 35 feet and 10.75 inches and 13th in weight throw - 36 feet and 11.75 inches).
Other DSU women's results at the Wildcat Open are: Spurgin (11th in 200-meter dash - 29.93 seconds and 13th in long jump - 14 feet and 7 inches); Beck (14th in 200-meter dash - 30.48 seconds); Amber Wiebenga (13th in 800-meter run - 2:57.39); Sara Schultz (14th in 800-meter dash - 2:57.42) and Shannon Dwyer (15th in shot put - 30 feet and 6.5 inches and 14th in weight throw - 30 feet and 5.5 inches).
Dakota State heads to Storm Lake, Iowa next Saturday (Jan. 28). The Trojans compete in the Dennis Young Classic, hosted by Buena Vista University.
