YANKTON, S.D. - A sophomore distance runner from Dakota State University will be competing at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May. Michael Hoffman qualified to NAIA Nationals for the first time in his collegiate track career at DSU.
Hoffman ran in the RiverRat Half-Marathon on Saturday, April 23. He placed second behind the reigning NAIA All-American marathoner, Thomas Madut. Hoffman ran a time of one hour, 16 minutes and 17 seconds, which is a provisional qualifying national mark.
"Mike ran a great race on a tough and windy course," stated Mike Nekuda, one of the track coaches for the Trojans. "I'm extremely excited to see Mike qualify for nationals. He has improved tremendously over the past year through his consistent hard work."
Hoffman will be running the marathon on May 28 in Marion, Ind.
Michael is the son of Tim and Renae Hoffman of Beresford, S.D.
