STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Dakota State University women's and men's indoor track and field teams competed at the Buena Vista Open on Saturday. The meet was held at the Lamberti Recreation Center.
Host team Buena Vista, Briar Cliff, Dakota State, Dordt, Morningside, Mount Marty and Northwestern (Iowa) competed in the meet.
Andy Coy captured the men's one-mile run individual title. He finished with a time of four minutes and 14.52 seconds, which is a national qualifying mark for NAIA Nationals. Unattached runner Anthony Drealan finished third with a time of 4:26.35.
Stephanie Warnke, who ran as unattached, won the women's 800-meter run. She crossed the finish line with a time of 2:23.21.
Danielle Rowe was tied for first place in the women's high jump with a measurement of five feet and 4.5 inches. Stephanie Uher was tied for 5th (4 feet and 9.75 inches). Amber Krogstad placed eighth (4 feet and 7.75 inches).
The women's 4 x 200-meter relay team (Rowe, Brandi Gau, Uher and Amy Pheneger) earned runner-up with a time of 1:52.38. The men's team (Stacey Berg, Phil Carmody, Gabe Samuelson and Jared Mengenhausen) placed fourth in 1:36.06.
Claire Beck, Brittany Young, Gau and Rowe ran the women's 4 x 400-meter relay for a third-place finish (4:13.80). The men's relay team (Mengenhausen, Coy, Jerad Schlobohm and Andy Quenzer) finished sixth with a time of 3:34.59.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Young placed third in 61.69 seconds. Beck was seventh in 1:03.85.
Amber Krogstad placed fifth in both long jump (15 feet and 7.5 inches) and triple jump (34 feet and .75 inches). Carmody and Berg were in a three-way tie for eighth place in the men's long jump with a measurement of 19 feet and 9.75 inches. Jordy Peterson was fifth in men's triple jump (41 feet and 11.25 inches).
Gau was sixth in women's 55-meter dash in 7.99 seconds.
Laura Porch clocked with a time of 30.05 for a seventh-place finish in the women's 200-meter dash.
Summer Bronson improved her time (9.35 seconds) in the women's 55-meter hurdles for a sixth-place finish, compared to her 9.73 seconds in the prelims.
In the men's 3000-meter run, Kace Groff finished eighth with a time of 9:51.06.
In throwing events, Brittany Pearson placed fourth in women's weight throw with a throw measurement of 41 feet and 2.5 inches. She was seventh in women's shot put (33 feet and 4.75 inches). In men's weight throw, Shane Whidby threw a measurement of 39 feet and 3.75 inches. Matt Glick (unattached) placed fifth with a measurement of 38 feet and two inches. Jeff Rieger was sixth (37 feet and 8.75 inches). Trevor Rosstznecht was eighth (36 feet and 1.5 inches).
Whidby was seventh in men's shot put (42 feet and eight inches). Rieger placed 10th with a measurement of 40 feet and .75 inches. Ryan Gimbel was 14th (36 feet and 8.5 inches).
Other women's place finishers are: Nicole Jurrens (12th in 200-meter dash - 31.64 seconds and 14th in 400-meter dash - 1:09.84); Karisa Hartje (12th in 400-meter dash - 1:08.23) and Sara Schultz (16th in 400-meter dash - 1:14.01).
Other men's place finishers are: Chance Clason (10th in 55-meter dash prelims - 6.96 seconds and 13th in 200-meter dash - 24.92 seconds); Ryan Huizenga (14th in 200-meter dash - 25 seconds); Joshua Scott (21st in 200-meter dash - 27.15 seconds); Samuelson (12th in 400-meter dash - 54.09 seconds); Quenzer (13th in 400-meter dash - 54.10 seconds); Mengenhausen (15th in 400-meter dash - 54.15 seconds); Schlobohm (16th in 400-meter dash - 54.57 seconds); Michael Hoffman (13th in one-mile run - 4:44.19 and 20th in 800-meter run - 2:10.58);
Dakota State returns back to action next weekend. The Trojans will compete in the two-day event at the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa.
